Job Description: The Community Service Officer position provides security guard duties for fixed security posts at various locations on campus, as well as backup coverage in various zones on campus. This position performs a variety of security, safety, and community service duties associated with the protection of life and property, maintenance of order, crime detection and prevention, and the enforcement of all University rules, policies and procedures.

Assigned as mobile units and are also assigned to fixed posts.
Provide, as requested, a central reception type area at static posts for information dispersal, question and concern reception, and service rendering.
Monitor physical security of facilities internally and externally by viewing and monitoring any surveillance cameras, card access points, entry and duress alarm points and the fire alarm system if so equipped.
Conduct physical walk-throughs of facilities and check interior and exterior doors and windows.
Monitor and report maintenance issues.
Engage in direct communication with the Public Safety Communications Center, Public Safety Officers, and Supervisors in the field as well as Safety Department personnel.
Act as liaison between Public Safety Officers, Syracuse Police Officers, and students, employees, and visitors.
Provide a security presence for the deterrence of criminal and unusual or suspicious behavior.
Provide other services to include safety escorts for students, employees, and visitors, property checks of parking lots and garages, property checks of campus buildings, and assistance with fire alarms and fire safety issues.
Respond to calls for service to include lockouts, injury reports and lost and found property reports.
Investigate minor motor vehicle accidents.
Respond to and investigate larcenies, criminal mischiefs, and property damages as assigned.
Assist at securing scenes, evidence, and obtaining witness demographic information.
Work with Crime Prevention to provide information, services, and programming to ensure departmental standards for community policing are met.
Provide emergency medical assistance to include first aid, CPR and AED services.
