The State University of New York College of Optometry seeks an accomplished professional to serve as the Vice President for Clinical Affairs (VPCA) and the Executive Director (ED) of the University Eye Center (UEC). The University Eye Center (UEC), which is an Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment Center, is the College’s owned and operated clinical site to train optometrists, collaborate on translational and clinical eye and vision research, and provide leading-edge patient care. The UEC serves a diverse patient population of approximately 60,000 patient visits each year.
The VPCA/ED provides strategic leadership for the UEC through fiscally responsible strategic planning, the effective organization and management of staff and resources, and the ongoing development of patient care with clinical training programs for optometry students. The VPCA/ED is responsible for ensuring that the UEC policies, procedures, programs, and operations encourage innovation and ensure excellence in the delivery of care while enhancing the quality of the professional degree and clinical research programs of the College.
The VPCA/ED is responsible for the overall administration of the UEC including budget development and finances, staffing and management, third-party insurance and billing, and compliance with regulatory agencies. The VPCA/ED supervises several direct reports – Chief Medical Officer, Director of Clinical Operations, Director of Patient Financial Services, and the Director of Health Care Development – as well as administrative office staff.
The VPCA/ED is a senior management position reporting directly to the President and serves as a member of the President’s Council.
Bachelor’s degree in business, health administration, or a clinical degree with equivalent experience/training in health care or clinical management
Five or more years of management or leadership experience in health care
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, delegate, and motivate teams in a diverse environment.
Demonstrated abilities in building strategic and tactical business plans and forging relationships with community partners.
Ability to work collaboratively with college leadership, SUNY administration, external agencies, other health care institutions, faculty, and staff.
A sophisticated understanding of contemporary trends in health care and clinical management, and an understanding of the unique challenges in an academic health center setting.
Ability to build and retain high-performing talent
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business administration or health administration/leadership
Board-certified in healthcare management (FACHE)
Experience in an Academic Medical Center or large healthcare system
Experience working with collective bargaining agreements
