ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The High Energy Theory Group (HET) has active programs in many areas of theoretical particle physics, with strong efforts in neutrino physics, Beyond the Standard Model phenomenology, precision calculations for the LHC and intensity frontier, overlaps of particle physics and cosmology, and lattice gauge theory. There are also new efforts in quantum entanglement and in Electron Ion Collider (EIC) physics.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

In order to strengthen our future efforts, the HET Group has a Postdoctoral Associate position available on or around October 1, 2025. We invite applications in any of the areas in which the group is active. In this role the selected candidates will collaborate with group members in performing original theoretical physics research in precision calculations for the LHC, beyond the standard model phenomenology, neutrino theory, the interplay of particle physics with cosmology or lattice gauge theory. This research is expected to be published in scientific journals and be presented at major conferences. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Propose, plan and perform scientific investigations in pursuit of scientific and technological excellence in all aspects of Particle Physics.
• Research experience demonstrated through a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Proven ability for disseminating research results by writing manuscripts and giving academic presentations

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• The position requires a Ph.D.in Physics

• Application of strong analytical and critical thinking skills and problem-solving efforts to formulate high-quality research ideas and directions in collaboration with mentors in the HET Group.

• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate research progress, challenges, achievements, and engage within and beyond the group with new potential collaborations.

• Publish results of research and development in peer-reviewed journals and conduct presentations at major conferences.
• Demonstrated track record of publication of research in high quality peer-reviewed journals and delivery of presentations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of a wide variety of High Energy Theory research methodologies

OTHER INFORMATION:

• BNL policy requires that after obtaining a Ph.D., eligible candidates for Research Associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of five years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in a research & development position (R&D), excluding time associated with family planning, military service, illness or other life-changing events.

• Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $70200 - $79550 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
• Initial 3-year term appointment subject to renewal contingent on performance and funding

• This position will be under the direction of Dr. Sally Dawson, Group Leader, High Energy Theory.

• This is a fully onsite position located at BNL

• The position may require domestic and international travel
