The English Department seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor working in Postcolonial /Global Anglophone Studies, with particular expertise in literature from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and/or the Middle East. Subspecialties within this field are welcome. The position will begin as early as July 2023.
The Naval Academy English Department is a mix of civilians with doctorates and military officers. All tenure-track faculty teach at all levels of the curriculum, including upper-level courses for English majors and sections of our two-semester first-year English sequence. The first-year courses, which are both introductions to literature and writing courses, are organized generically: plays, essays, and short stories in the fall; novels and poems in the spring. Each instructor designs an individual syllabus and chooses which texts to teach within these guidelines.
Teaching Load: 9 hours/semester (typically, two sections of first-year English and one upper-level literature course).

Qualified candidates must have a PhD by the time of appointment, should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, and should show potential to continue an active scholarly program. Full summer research support may be available for the first three years of new appointments; after that, civilians may receive partial summer research support by applying for Naval Academy Research Council grants. Established by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in response to 2017 legislation, Defense Security Cooperation University is the center of excellence for Security Cooperation training, education, and academic research. DSCU develops curriculum, provides instruction, and partners with other institutions to train and educate the Security Cooperation workforce and others involved in Security Cooperation. DSCU also oversees and manages the implementation of the Department of Defense Security Cooperation Workforce Development Program to develop an agile, certified, and experienced workforce ready to meet the current and future global Security Cooperation missions.
