Overview
University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.
The Senior Director, Data Management and Strategy will establish and manage University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) data collection strategy and the division's data governance structure. Strategize, identify, analyze, and prepare quantitative and qualitative datasets for UDAR units. Develop and implement data strategies to ensure high-quality data is captured and utilized effectively across UDAR's systems to advance the University's fundraising and engagement goals. Ensure that large and complex data sources are accurate, connects data sources into the data warehouse and related institution-wide data structures. Provide data driven business sets to support alumni and donor engagement. Conduct policy and compliance analysis on topics related to donor databases and donor systems. Partner with UDAR leadership on policy development and practical implementation. Serve as a liaison with analytical staff at UDAR, peer institutions, and foundations on data sharing, research, and policy analysis. Manage performance and tuning enhancements, data import/export, and data integrity verification. Review, evaluate, and implement changes to policies and procedures regarding databases and applications to improve system efficiency, database performance, and customer service.

Responsibilities
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Required Experience: 7+ years relevant experience or a combination of experience and education
Experience using data to inform or develop recommendations, policy or operating procedures and project management
Preferred Experience: 10+ years experience in an academic or non-profit setting
Experience with the use of digital technologies within a large complex networked environment, training, programming, and client service
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrable experience in one or more development-oriented CRM systems (e.g., Blackbaud CRM, Raiser's Edge, etc.), relational databases, and Microsoft Office tools including Access and Excel
Demonstrated experience in project management and implementing process improvements
Proven management experience, working effectively to develop, promote, and grow teams as individuals and an overall unit
Customer service and solution-oriented mindset
Deep understanding and knowledge of best practices in data and development operations
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize work effectively, meet firm deadlines, and handle the pressure of a fast-paced work environment
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Demonstrated competence in performing data analysis tasks
Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrable experience in project management
Experience working in Advancement Services
Extensive experience in/with Blackbaud CRM, MS Dynamics, Banner Advancement, and/or data warehouses
Experience in basic to moderately complex SQL query writing
Experience in the use of API platforms
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $150,000.00 to USD $190,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
