The Opportunity:
The Sports Science Laboratory (SSL) at Washington State University (WSU) focuses on bat and ball collision dynamics to support equipment performance evaluations for regulatory bodies and manufacturers. Led by Dr. Lloyd V. Smith, the lab includes a multidisciplinary team and supports both undergraduate technicians and graduate researchers in sports science.
As the Research Technologist, you will assist in determining suitable methods for sports science research involving sports gear and equipment; independently perform investigative scientific procedures on sports gear and equipment using a wide variety of research techniques with project goals; make modifications as needed; documents and reduces data pertaining to SSL research; and create reports as requested.
Your other duties include maintaining and repairing SSL research equipment and tools; and assisting with SSL operations.

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,477 to $4,632 | Range R040 | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Two (2) years experience as a laboratory technician, research aide, OR equivalent; OR a Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of science OR technology; OR equivalent education/experience.
Ability to operate testing equipment, machines, and shop tools.
Ability and willingness to travel including overnight.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience and ability to work well with colleagues, students, and external constituencies
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Excellent communication skills; oral, written, and electronic.
Excellent organizational skills.
About Department- Sport and Science Laboratory Webpage The Sports Science Laboratory at Washington State University is a research facility specializing in testing sports equipment, particularly baseball bat and ball collisions.
