Position Available: MiraCosta College invites applications for one equity-minded, full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track, English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor position beginning in August 2025. Principal Responsibilities Include:1. Provide accessible, inclusive, and equitable instruction to multilingual adult ESL learners in any course and modality offered by the department.2. Work in collaboration with full-time and associate faculty in coordinating and maintaining currency of curriculum.3. Contribute to the creation, assessment, evaluation, and recording of student learning outcomes (SLOs).4. Assist in the creation, revision, development, and evaluation of courses, programs, and certificates in collaboration with other faculty.5. Collaborate with noncredit and credit full-time ESL faculty to organize and lead faculty professional development and mentor and evaluate associate faculty.7. Engage in noncredit and credit ESL departmental and faculty activities, including serving on hiring committees, conducting faculty performance evaluations, collaborating with the Adult Education Office staff, serving as student learning outcome (SLO) level lead, contributing to program review, and attending department meetings.8. Collaborate with faculty from both credit and noncredit disciplines to support the transition of noncredit ESL students into employment, career pathways, or postsecondary education.9. Work in partnership with faculty, counselors, and administration to facilitate the implementation of instructional and student support services as required by statewide and national initiatives such as Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title II. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all full-time faculty to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two hundred (200) road miles from the employees regularly assigned district worksite. The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high-quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.
Compensation: Initial salary placement is based on education and experience and ranges from $85,435 (class I, step 1) to $143,026 (class VI-doctorate, step 10) on the 2024-2025 Annual Salary Schedule. Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis; OR
2. Master's degree in Linguistics with a Specialization in TESOL/Applied Linguistics (SDSU); Master's of Education in TESOL, Literacy and Culture (USD) [approved comparable degree titles at MiraCosta College].
3. Bachelor's degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate; AND Master's degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, any foreign language, or Literature and Writing Studies [approved comparable degree title at MiraCosta College]; OR
5. a fully satisfied, lifetime California Community College credential authorizing instruction/service in the appropriate subject matter; AND
6. demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
