The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. ABOUT THE POSITION:
Purpose of Position:
Under general oversight, the Electric Shop Supervisor leads, manages, and coordinates the daily operations, activities, and staff of the electrical trades section of the Central Facilities Services (CFS) department of The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS). Provides support to Substation Foreman with basic knowledge of medium-voltage electrical systems, up to 4.16kV, safety protocols, and regulations governing electrical work. The ideal candidate will have an extensive electrical maintenance background and be an experienced leader with strong customer service skills and a focus on safety; the ability to build rapport with internal and external customers; and the ability to balance competing demands while implementing innovative solutions.
Essential Functions:
The following are the essential duties and responsibilities the incumbent must be able to perform.
Lead and mentor electrical team members, troubleshoot complex electrical issues, and coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and timely project completion.
Actively engage in hands-on electrical work as needed, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
Verify and approve daily technician billing data
Complete work orders and associated paperwork.
Support the Substation Foreman with substation electrical infrastructure and medium voltage distribution system.
Act as supervisor of Low Voltage Electrical Shop as needed.
Install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, operate, and maintain medium voltage electrical systems and associated equipment to include transformers, cables, switches, and circuit breakers.
Prepare labor and material estimates for work orders and other trade requests.
Initiate purchase orders for materials and services needed.
Prepare written electrical troubleshooting studies and reports. Verbally present results of studies to the colleges with analysis and recommendations.
Maintain an inventory of tools and materials in the shop and requisition materials as needed.
Recommend ways to improve work methods and quality and to ensure efficiency of equipment and shop performance.
Plan and inspect installation of equipment and fixtures according to blueprints, schematic drawings, and sketches.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, BOCA, state and federal regulations, and TCCS safety standards for all electrical work.
Inspect work in progress for conformity to specifications and codes. Provide 'as built' information and data for plans and drawings.
Evaluate workload on an ongoing basis and make staffing recommendations.
May act as a liaison for CFS with similar consortial groups and other organizations.
Perform trade duties and responsibilities as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Recruit, select, train, evaluate, and develop staff.
Clearly communicate job requirements and expectations.
Coordinate training and resources to support the performance of work duties.

Address performance issues early, create appropriate documentation, and ensure follow through. Collaborate with Human Resources as needed.
Complete annual written performance reviews.
Required Work Hours: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Must be accessible by telephone 24/7 during non-working hours and may occasionally be required to respond by going onsite. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: The following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.
Education: Completion of a relevant technical or vocational education program.
Experience:
At least five (5) years of relevant trade experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
Valid journeyman Electrical License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to balance managerial responsibilities with direct involvement in trade tasks to ensure project success, quality workmanship, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards
Ability to administrate a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, associated equipment, and electrical construction.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in repairing and installing electrical circuitry and equipment.
Working knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code).
Ability to read, understand, and work from plans, blueprints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems.
Working knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA safety regulations applicable to electrical trade.
Working knowledge of motor control circuits and energy management systems.
A demonstrated self-starter, with strong analytic, problem-solving, critical thinking, and research skills.
Performance management skills and knowledge of effective methods to coach direct reports.

Ability to climb ladders, crawl in attics and under buildings, lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, bend, stoop, work from heights and in tight spaces, and work in uncomfortable positions.
Ability to work under all indoors and outdoors weather conditions, including but not limited to hot, cold, and damp.
Be able to be contacted by telephone during non-working hours.
Be available for overtime work and to be on-call.
Be able to wear protective clothing and equipment as required by the tasks being performed.
Engage in and promote safe work practices, complying with all applicable OSHA and Cal/OSHA rules.
Other: A valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to TCC's automobile liability insurance provider.
Preferred Qualifications: The following qualifications are preferred:
C-10 or California State Certificate
Working knowledge of Power generation switchgear, controls and devices.
Working knowledge of medium voltage breakers and protection relays.
Able to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics and technical manuals.
Knowledge of medium voltage testing equipment.
COMPENSATION
Pay: The monthly salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $6,666 - $8,333.33 per month depending on experience.
