The Role: Analyst, Asia Oil Market
The Team: This role is in the Global Demand Team within the Oil Market, Midstream and Downstream (OMD) business line at S&P Global Commodity Insights. Members of the Global Demand Team interact actively with other analysts in Asia and around the globe in subject areas such as short-term oil demand, trade flow and inventory tracking, crude oil and refined product balances, and downstream refining economics. The Impact: This position will have major responsibilities in analyzing elements affecting the Asian oil markets (crude oil, condensate and NGLs, downstream refining, oil trade and prices, petroleum product demand, inventory, and petroleum policies) in the global context, and presenting results in both written reports and client-facing interactions. The position will also have business development and client retention responsibilities for the Asia Pacific.

Responsibilities:
Lead analytics research on short-term Asia oil refined product demand via quantitative modeling, qualitative assessment, internal collaboration, and external engagement.
Cover all parts of Asia-Pacific region, particularly Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Australasia and other selected parts of the region.
Responsible for authoring Asia-Pacific Weekly Recap (Oil), including maintaining supply-demand and pricing data models and generating market insights of crude oil, naphtha, LPG, gasoline, gasoil, jet/kerosene, and fuel oil/bunkers.
Jointly responsible for authoring Japan Weekly Oil Analysis, covering refining, crude imports & stocks, margins, product & crude prices, and demand forecast.
Contribute to the work of refined product short-term outlook and other Asia-related deliverables with consistent views.
Work closely with Commercial teams to support generating business opportunities of S&P Global Commodity Insights OMD services, particularly within the Asia Pacific region.
Interact actively with customers to answer questions and present oil market outlooks at company and industry events.
What We're Looking For: Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in refining, economics, engineering, business administration, or similar field
Minimum four years of full-time experience in refining analytics, energy industry consulting, investment banking, equity research or equivalent professional experience; A fundamental understanding of the Asia Pacific downstream oil industry is preferred.
Excellent communication skills and superb in oral and written English. Must be able to effectively present forecasts and supporting materials to clients in regular reports, phone calls, emails, and web/live conferences.
Strong ability to identify vital short-term dynamics in oil industry by exploiting data and information with multiple quantitative tools, visualization platforms and qualitative methods.
Innovative and strong problem-solving skills with self-starter spirits to streamline processes and identify and implement improvements.
Excellent Excel skills and proficiency with other MS applications required (Word and PowerPoint).
Successful candidates will be able to work well under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background in engineering and refining
Experience covering the Asian oil markets in the global context.
Understanding of economics/econometrics/refining modeling (LPs)
Experience in modeling and programming languages
Asian language capability
