The Department of Dance at Skidmore College invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor.

Job Description: The Department of Dance at Skidmore College seeks a dance educator with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, who can facilitate technical expertise and cultural competency in an undergraduate academic environment. Enthusiasm for mentoring a diverse population of students is essential as is holding a passion for teaching dance at all levels, beginning through advanced. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in teaching one or more forms of African diasporic dance at all levels. The preferred candidate will also have experience in at least one of the following areas: composition and choreography, dance history, dance technology and film, improvisation, or other forms of technical practice. Additional responsibilities include creating work for departmental concerts, advising independent research and senior Coda projects, participation in Skidmore Collegeâ™s core curriculum, including the First Year Experience Scribner Seminar, and participation in both departmental and college governance.
Qualifications: A terminal degree is required (MFA or PhD) with at least two years of previous experience teaching in higher education. Professional experience is preferred and we recognize that âœprofessional experienceâ can encompass many kinds of work in the discipline of dance.
