Social media and digital technology have transformed politics around the world, shifted the way we receive and engage with information, and presented urgent challenges to democratic governance. NYU's Center for Social Media and Politics is an academic research institute dedicated to studying how social and online media impact politics, policy, and democracy.
We are seeking a part-time Associate Research Scientist to support various research initiatives in our lab. The Associate Research Scientist will provide support to multiple of the Center's research portfolio by performing data collection/analysis and conducting experiments exercising moderate use of independent judgment.
Responsibilities will include:
Partner with postdocs, engineers, and PIs to support data-driven social science research projects
Collect, clean, and label data
Perform exploratory analysis and tabulations
Conduct social science surveys and coordinate survey recruitment with postdocs
Strongest applicants would be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills, interest in data-driven social science, and experience with empirical research.

Required education: Bachelor's degree in social science or quantitative fields (e.g. political science, sociology, psychology, economics, marketing, mathematics, statistics, or similar business or liberal arts programs)
Required skills and experience:
Experience with either R or Python
Ability to work both as part of a team and independently
Preferred knowledge and experience:
Interest in data-driven social science research
Experience in social science research
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $26/hour with a max of 27 hours per week. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
