NYU Law is seeking a Director for the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (EVC) Program. The new Director will be directly responsible for leading and executing strategies, programming, and growth of the EVC with a goal of developing and nurturing the entrepreneurial mindset and skills of our students, alumni, and broader community.
Position Summary
NYU Law has an exciting opportunity for a Director of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (EVC) Program. Founded in 2017, EVC is the Law School's community for students, alumni and friends who are working, involved or interested in startup law, venture capital, entrepreneurship and/or the innovation and creative economy. The EVC Program goal is twofold: To provide opportunities outside of the classroom for education, shared learning and investment through the EVC Fund and to build a community of NYU Law Students and Alumni who are, or aspire to be, entrepreneurs, investors or providers of legal services to entrepreneurs innovators and investors.
The role exists to lead, manage, and grow all the offerings of the EVC Program. This person will work closely with the Development and Alumni Relations team to ensure that relevant alumni are being meaningfully engaged and will also work with the Finance Office at NYU Law whenever the EVC Fund makes a seed stage investment. In addition, the role will require close and cross-functional active engagement across student groups, Centers, Institutes, and Programs at NYU Law, in order to provide an entrepreneurship portfolio that holistically connects across the entire institution. This position will also work collaboratively with university entrepreneurship leaders across NYU to ensure program collaboration and cohesion.
The successful candidate will be passionate about engaging and supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and new ventures while being able to execute on the core mission and values of EVC and NYU Law. They will possess strong knowledge of what it takes to launch a company, organization, or product, a keen ability to build relationships across all sectors needed to support new ventures, a bias to partnership and ecosystem building, and a drive to build so that the program flourishes.
Principal Duties
- Manage and execute on all student and alumni facing programming for the EVC Program, including Summer Internships, Grants, Business Plan Competitions, and regular events.
- Manage the Jury, which serves as a sounding board, advisory board, and management team of the entire program.
- Engage alumni in the work of the Program, with a goal to deepen their connection and relationship with NYU Law.
- Develop the strategic vision and plans for how to grow the suite of offerings to meet the needs of students and alumni
- Be responsible for structuring, executing, and managing strategic partnerships internal and external to the University.
- Develop a framework and system to measure the impact of the entrepreneurship programming
- Work with the Development and Alumni Relations team to develop short and long-term funding strategies and assist with fundraising as needed, as it relates to the EVC Program
The Director will be required to have deep knowledge of starting a business or organization, fundraising, and managing a diverse set of partners. S/he must work with a high level of independence within a progressive institutional environment. S/he challenges the status quo and develops/offers new techniques to support the development of entrepreneurial thinking and venture creation. S/he embraces new ideas; innovates and anticipates future needs; shares knowledge and teaches others to do the same. It is an expectation that the candidate is a strong communicator and collaborative partner, able to work up, down and across the organization, and represent the Law School in a variety of diverse forums.
Current Required Education
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree or entrepreneurial exposure/experience preferred
Current Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 3+ years' experience in entrepreneurial ecosystems or exposed to startups
- A strategic mindset and proven ability to execute in an academic and non-academic setting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively multi-task large scale projects while fostering supportive and collaborative relationships with colleagues.
- Strongly demonstrates a bias towards action, rapid iteration, and hands on approach
- Proven track record of success and expertise in building and/or managing programs
- Proven ability to work with external and internal organizations, partners, donors and agencies to produce results. This may include investors, corporations, government programs, and entrepreneurs
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Networked approach to developing leadership style is key; must be comfortable in an environment of deep collaboration, engagement and creativity from all levels of the organization
- Ability to work efficiently, creatively and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization, including University senior leaders and external executives where necessary, ability to positively represent the Law School

Institutional Impact
Institutional Impact would be measured by the number of students reached through the EVC Program, the amount of students funded through various student programs, the number of alumni reached through programs, and the funds raised through the impact of engaging alumni through the EVC Program.
Authority and Accountability
The incumbent will execute and develop policy and their work impacts the Law School and the University in significant ways. By continuing to execute and grow the EVC Program, NYU Law continues to strengthen its brand as one of the top places for law and tech in the country, which impacts the broader University brand as well.

- This position prepares budget recommendations for expenditures in relation to the development program, monitors expenditures, and develops strategies to lower costs for products and services.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $95,000.
