The Manager of Accounting supervises the daily operations of the Accounting team and serves as the primary accountant for CHELCO, Southland Utility Services, and the Eglin utility privatization contract. Duties include, but aren’t limited to:
Supervising the daily activities of the accounting department and ensuring that all major projects, month-end, and year-end reports are completed accurately and on time.
Overseeing accounting for the Eglin utility privatization contract, working with the Eglin team to assist with contract compliance as well as maintaining the contract records to accurately reflect complex transactions.
Researching and analyzing taxes, capital credits, compliance, financial forecasting, internal controls, and software issues.
Assisting with all regulatory, state and federal audit and tax requirements.
Maintaining CHELCO’s distribution and general plant accounting, including working with multiple departments to ensure accuracy.
Generating, analyzing, and reviewing financial statements. Supporting other departments by creating useful reporting to assist with management and decision making.
Working with and understanding other departments within the Cooperative to assist them as needed.
Minimum Requirements: To be eligible for consideration, the candidate must have the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and six or more years directly related experience, or Master’s Degree in a related field and four or more years directly related experience. Must have at least three years of management/supervisory experience, with at least two years of formal supervisor experience in a business setting. Must have at least a high-level awareness of essential employment law concepts such as: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, The Fair Labor Standards Act, The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, and Workers’ Compensation. Certified Public Accountant, preferred.
Knowledge of economics, accounting, and auditing, including a robust understating of GAAP. Must also have a working knowledge of law and government, such as laws, legal codes, government regulations, and governmental procedures.
Knowledge of business and management principles involving strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Practical communication skills, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain and protect confidential information are required.
Must be able to use mathematical reasoning to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas
Must have exceptional judgement and complex problem solving skills
Must have proficiency with computers and software such as Windows and Microsoft Office. Should possess a robust understanding of different financial software systems.
Must have the ability to converse in English.
Certified Professional Accountant preferred.

Starting Annual Pay: $93,000 or higher depending on experience
