The Position:
The Department of Agriculture, Penn National Racetrack is seeking (3) three licensed veterinarian positions to provide professional veterinary expertise in Thoroughbred Racetrack regulatory medicine and supervise staff performing test barn activities (pre-race and post-race detention barn). DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
This position will supervise the duties of Livestock Workers in the test barn activities including the collection and processing of blood and urine samples, oversee the normal racing activities and record-keeping for horses that qualify for treatment with medication for respiratory bleeding in accordance to the rules of the Thoroughbred Racing Commission and conduct pre-race inspections on horses entering the paddock prior to racing.
The incumbent's duties may include the pre-race examination of a horse entered for that day's races for health, welfare, and fit-racing soundness issues. Other duties include being present in the paddock at the finish of each racing program in order to observe horses before during and after racing and examine the horse when requested by the stewards and/or notify stewards of any horse that is deemed physically unfit to compete in racing.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
Post Employment Requirement:
If the employee is not licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Pennsylvania, he/she must obtain Pennsylvania licensure within twelve (12) months of being hired.
Additional Requirements:
A Commission employee license is required for this position; can be obtained after employment begins.
