The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) seeks to hire a director for its Geospatial Collaborative. The Geospatial Collaborative is an academic center that uses geospatial technology and tools to inform solutions to challenging research and social problems. The new director will have the opportunity to shape an innovative organization that plays a vital role in the St. Louis geospatial ecosystem. The Collaborative is the platform for coordinating UMSL geospatial initiatives in partnership with local community entities connected to national security, industry, workforce development, government, and academia.
The Collaborative director will focus on several issues including: 1) building the center and its team to accomplish its mission; 2) implementing programming to allow UMSL to engage in the geospatial ecosystem; 3) streamlining a process for universities and industries to pursue unclassified and classified research opportunities that enhance national security; 4) accelerating the development of diverse talent pipelines to meet the needs of the geospatial workforce; and 5) championing strategies that help to reimagine the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency's relationship with north St. Louis and strengthen community connections, public policy, and economic development outcomes. The Collaborative director will receive a departmental affiliation based on area of expertise.
Has a terminal degree in geospatial science or a related field;
Has knowledge of geospatial technologies and experience with data science and analysis;
Has experience in geospatial research and geographic information system (GIS) application;
Has experience in the geospatial, national security, or community development ecosystems;
Demonstrates commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a complex work environment;
Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required; and
Has proven critical thinking, problem solving, and judgment skills.
Has knowledge of the federal grant and contracting process, including federal budget cycles, reporting guidelines, schedules, proposal types and structures, and requirements;
Has knowledge of private and public foundation grants and contract opportunities, and their budget cycles, guidelines, schedules, proposal types and structures, and requirements;
Demonstrates knowledge of the national security and community development;
Has experience with National Geospatial Intelligence Agency or other federal intelligence or security agencies;
Has experience with curriculum development and assessment.
