Pay Range/ Status: $70,000 - $76,000 / Exempt

Reports to: Registrar and Director of Central Records

Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is located on a beautiful rural campus in Amherst, Massachusetts. We provide residential undergraduate education to nearly 600 students. Each department at Hampshire College contributes to the collaborative culture of the organization and plays an important role in the success of the College. The office of central records (Hampshire’s Registrar’s Office) protects and maintains student academic records. We provide students with access to their academic records; communicate policies and procedures; prepare transcripts; schedule classroom space; certify enrollment and/or graduation; provide course registration for Hampshire and the Five Colleges; and prepare other college records and statistics. Our staff helps students navigate TheHub, the web portal interfacing with the college database. Central records staff are crucial team members who help the community perform these tasks as seamlessly as possible.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the registrar and director of central records, the assistant director of institutional research will support institutional planning, student success, and upper administration. The assistant director will conduct research and analysis, produce reports and presentations to inform planning and decisions making, and serve on various committees as assigned. The assistant director will provide information and analytic support to the College’s administrative decision makers in order to facilitate strategic planning, policymaking, and support for accreditation, academic planning, retention initiatives, program reviews, student learning, enrollment projections and other processes requiring strategic analysis. The assistant director is responsible for analyzing complex data sets by using research methods, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and statistical techniques. Submit accurate data to government agencies and the media. Respond to internal and external requests for institutional data, including the completion of surveys and required reports for federal governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations. Maintain archival institutional research data in easily accessible formats. Assist in the development and analysis of institutional key performance indicators and outcomes. The assistant director must be passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• High level of computer competency required.
• Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
• Requires knowledge of national context of/for liberal arts education, federal and consortial data-sharing conventions, regional accreditation requirements, and educational practices at similar institutions across the country.
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and statistics, quality, program productivity and evaluation of institutional programs and initiatives.
• Knowledge of contemporary statistical software programs (e.g. SPSS, SAS, Tableau, etc.).
• Ability to summarize and present data effectively including the use of tables and charts with accuracy and efficiency.
• Must be familiar with Drupal software to maintain, edit, and update the OIR website.
• Thorough knowledge of FERPA regulations.

• Experience with working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Four-year college degree or equivalent
• Minimum two years job-related experience

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in statistics, education, social science, business or other related field preferred.
