Responsible for providing health services to animals at the City shelter.  Also responsible for providing public education on animal health. 

• Perform sterilization surgeries on adopted/adoptable animals.
• Monitor animals during surgery recovery.
• Conduct and monitor health/behavior evaluations of impounded/quarantined animals including monitoring spread of communicable diseases.
• Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose problems.
• Treat and dress wounds.
• Operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines.
• Prescribe medication.
• Administering all necessary vaccines to animals.
• Communicate with public and staff regarding animal care, diseases at the shelter, euthanasia and dangerous animal policies.
• Advise staff on all veterinary care of impounded animals, policies regarding euthanasia and how to care for dangerous animals.
• Provide required continued education to staff Animal Service Officers on animal welfare and general health topics.
• Responsible for ordering and inventory of controlled substances.
• Must be able to be on call to respond to impounded animals that are gravely sick/injured.
• Perform detailed evaluations/necropsies for animal cruelty cases.

Education/ Experience:

• 3-5 years of Veterinary experience
• Excellent surgical skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Possess excellent communication and business skills
• Basic knowledge of expert resources in various diseases, so help can be sought when needed
• Skill in monitoring data collection and data entry to assure quality control
• Extensive knowledge of diagnostic microbiology and serology for communicable diseases
