The Office of Financial Aid is responsible for managing and processing approximately $43 million in financial assistance for students at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. These resources include loans, employment, stipends, scholarships, grants, and sponsorships. These funds are originated from academic departments, university-wide, HSPH gifts, endowed and unrestricted sources as well as external resources such as Gates, hospitals, Fulbright, World Bank, government, military, and federal agencies.
The Financial Aid Coordinator is a key member of a busy Financial Aid Office with frequent student engagement. The Financial Aid Coordinator (FAC) works under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Financial Aid and supports the other staff in the office. The FAC has primary responsibility for processing student stipends and departmental funding and assisting with processing third party contracts. They work with current and prospective students, staff, and faculty responding to walk-in inquiries, phone calls, and emails. They provide student counseling on topics that include budgeting, loan debt, and providing general financial aid information.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serving as the primary member of Office of Financial Aid responsible for responding to financial aid inquiries from current and prospective students via email, phone and walk-in appointments on a variety of financial aid topics
Processing a high volume of student stipends along with monthly and annual reconciliation
Coordinating the academic department funding process including set-up of financial aid funds and entering awards in database
Assisting with third party contract processing
General student counseling on topics such as billing, loans, application questions and related topics
Working with the Office of Admissions to provide financial aid information for financial certification for incoming international students
Serving as a member of the Financial Health Resource Group (FHRG) responsible for creating and maintaining a financial literacy program
Serving as a representative of the Office of Financial Aid on HSPH and Harvard-wide committees as appropriate.
Assisting with financial aid event preparation
Liaising with Harvard Chan Student Services, other University Departments including University Student Financial Services, and outside agencies
General office administration
Performing other related duties as required
PLEASE NOTE: The primary work location for this position is Boston, MA and in order to be on Harvard payroll, you must reside in one of the following states – MA, NH, RI, ME, CT, VT, NY, or MD. Until our return to campus and full operational status, which is still to-be-determined, this interview process and position will take place in a slightly modified manner – including virtual interviews and a combination of remote and on-site onboarding and work. On-campus/in-person work is expected, though, upon start date – in accordance with approved COVID-related guidelines and protocols. During this time, the shifts are also likely to be irregular (potentially including weekends and off-hours) and may therefore require schedule flexibility.
