The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The NSTX Water Systems Operator assists with the construction, maintenance and operation of water systems supporting experimental operations utilizing advanced troubleshooting skills with minimal supervision.
Systems include experimental water systems include de-ionized treatment systems, HVAC chilled water systems, cooling systems, and associated infrastructure.
Cooling water plant operations including monitoring instrumentation and control, valve configuration, support for vacuum and bakeout system operations, timely alarm and fault response, system repairs, hydrostatic testing, plumbing/piping installation and maintenance: 50%
Interpret engineering schmatics, drawings, sketches, procedures and specifications to determine how best to fabricate, install, repair and remove parts and systems in experimental areas within the requirements of the procedures, drawings and Engineering Work Packages provided. 25%
Install, troubleshoot, maintain and un-install various types of parts and equipment in experimental areas. 20%
Selection and set up of test apparatus and evaluation of the performance and reliability of prototypes. 5%
Education and Experience:
Technical institute or Associate's degree with 1 or more years' of experience. In lieu of a Technical or Associate's degree, we will look at 3+ years of work or military experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have extensive hands-on knowledge and experience with relevant plumbing, piping, pumping, and associated controls required.
Process piping fabrication/installation/maintenance
Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principles
Working knowledge of pump repair and maintenance
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
1st shift with on-call emergency response as required.
