Army West Point Athletics seeks a Head Coach who will be responsible for creating and maintaining a successful Rabble Rousers/Cheer program. The Head Coach is responsible for evaluating, recruiting, training, and coaching cadet-athletes to compete successfully against Division I intercollegiate level competition. This position reports directly to the assigned Sport Administrator, keeping him/her abreast of all planning, organizing, staff and development of the Army West Point Athletics program.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
-Ensure all AACCA/USA Cheer safety procedures are followed and AACCA/USA Cheer certified.
-Promotes the philosophy and objectives of AWPAA; to include adhering to and enforcing all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of USMA, and AACCA/USA Cheer (or other governing body).
-Responsible for the ongoing teaching and instruction of Cadet-Athletes in the performance of their sport such as, but not limited to, appearances, practices, individual and team workouts, and conditioning sessions.
-Schedules and conducts regular practice sessions, as permitted by AWPAA rules and regulations.
-Ability to teach proper technique for all movements, including but not limited to pyramids, stunts, basket tosses, and all other routines.
-Develops and implements strategies for motivating Cadet-Athletes to perform at maximum levels as both individuals and a team.
-Provide management and oversight at all required athletic contests and events. (All football games; home and away. Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Basketball home events. Other athletics events as scheduled.)
-Provides leadership and instruction on personal and athletic development of Cadet-Athletes, to include counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters, when appropriate.
-Oversees recruitment and selection of Cadet-Athletes. Organizes and executes tryouts to recruit admitted Cadet-Athletes.
-Commitment to understanding and supporting the USMA holistic Cadet-Athlete experience.
-Ensures that team travel arrangements are in compliance with USMA and AWPAA rules and regulations, to include creation of travel itineraries and coordination of travel plans.
-Work to integrate sports into the whole spectrum of USMA life to complement the AWPAA and USMA mission in the military community.
-Manages program within the framework of a balanced budget.
-Oversees selection, purchase, fitting and maintenance of team equipment, to include uniforms, athletic equipment, and other supplies.
-Ensures safety of cadet-athlete and support staff through careful monitoring of the condition of athletics equipment and facilities utilized by designated sport; submits requires for repair, maintenance, and improvement of facilities to facility manager, when appropriate.
-Cooperates with all coaches with the Athletic Department to enhance overall Department operations.
-Schedule and coordinate Rabble Rousers appearances at professional, civic, charitable and alumni events. (Approximately 60 events per year.)
-Prepare cadet-athletes to perform at all home and away football games (12) and all home Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Basketball games (approximately 20). Assist with departmental needs as requested.
-Strong social media skills/knowledge.
-Provide an overall positive educational environment for Cadet-Athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparing them for life beyond college.
-Supervise, in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program, the total academic progress of the team implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff.
5% Camps & Clinics:
-Plans and organizes camps, clinics, exhibitions, and campus activities as approved by AWPAA.
