The Subscriptions and Outreach Assistant assures that library patrons have access to scholarly journals, abstracts, and magazines, both current and retrospective, by supervising the check-in, placement, and weeding of the library's print and electronic subscription publications. In addition, the Assistant works with library staff and other College departments to plan and produce displays and other promotional materials. This multifaceted job requires significant attention to detail, organization, creativity, and judgment. Primary responsibilities include:
Processing and organization of library serial publications (newspapers, magazines, etc.)
Producing and updating library displays and promotions
Assist with acquisitions and renewals of subscription resources
Receive and process all library mail, much of which is serials (journals, magazines, and newspapers)
Process daily handling of active subscriptions, including check-in of received materials, new subscriptions, cancellations, title changes, removal of older issues, and claiming of missing/late issues in the library management software
Identify and correct problems with library subscriptions
Arrange placement of serials, including shifting the collection to accommodate changing needs
Reshelve physical serials and microfilm/microfiche
Collect usage data on physical serials, microfilm/microfiche, and electronic resources
Monitor department email
Use project management software to update status of active tasks
Design and Outreach Support
Produce and update library book displays
Produce pamphlets, posters, digital displays, and other graphic materials
Work with library staff and campus organizations to plan displays and promotions
Technical Services Support
Act as point of contact to receive dissertations and their copyright agreements
Save backups of received files
Prepare and supervise printing and binding of materials such as dissertations and theses
Repair damaged books and other materials in a timely manner
Assist with Technical Services workflow and projects as assigned
Recommend methods for improving procedures or workflows; initiate changes as approved.
Maintain up-to-date manuals, records, documents, etc.
Work collaboratively with individuals and departments in the library, on campus, and in the professional community.
Participate in relevant training opportunities such as workshops on library and/or institution skills and software.
Participate in library committees and discussions relating to library and/or institution issues
Contribute to library and/or institution-wide projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience:
High School degree
1-2 years workplace experience
Bachelor's Degree or some library experience
Graphic design or art experience
Competencies / Skills:
Excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills
Attention to detail
Working knowledge of PCs and common office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Experience with desktop publishing and graphic design software
Customer service orientation
