The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Control Systems & Inspection Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Supporting manufacturing processes to optimize productivity, quality and output to win-the-day by identifying, creating, and optimizing controls and automation solutions through PLCs, HMIs, motion control, VFDs, data historians, and other automation components
Identifying and leading process improvement projects for integrated systems, manufacturing, and reporting to improve process safety, quality, service, cost, capacity, and productivity
Specifying, programming, and commissioning of new automated equipment including both traditional controls and software
Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop data automation and analytics for various discrete and continuous processes
Developing and writing system requirements or user specifications to enable robust test vessel design and build or hardware monitoring solutions. Collaborate with product experts to ensure design meets product needs
Supporting vessel trouble shooting, investigation, and analysis to address anomalous product performance. Collaborate with maintenance experts to improve current vessel capability and up time
Updating internal processes, work instructions, and internal systems to align to global operations "best practices" while meeting business objectives
Characterizing vessel performance and variability, writing and executing validation protocols, and making recommendations using a risk\benefit approach to a cross-functional audience
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Three (3) years of experience as an Engineer and/or Technician in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
BS or higher in Electrical Engineering with a Systems/Control Systems emphasis
Possess a thorough background in Allen-Bradley controls systems and hardware and proficiency in Motion Control Servo's including Kinetix Drives, Servo Motors, IAI Linear and Rotary actuation.
Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming, motion control, and servo & variable frequency drives
Experience with robotics and vision systems (non-contact profilometers, 3D/2D scanning with Keyence, Cognex and LMI Technologies) as well as event based code reading that includes QR, OCR, Data Matrix and Universal.
A working knowledge of various communication protocols which will include; Ethernet IP, Devicenet, Profinet, Sercos, IP addressing & subnets, AD (Group Policy) credentials for server configuration, MODBUS RTU, MODBUS TCP IP, familiarity with scripting and automation (VB scripting and SQL)
Software development experience (Visual Studio (VB, C#, C++), SharePoint, NI Measurement Studio, HTML, Java, LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB)
Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems Strong emphasis on applied statistical applications (Minitab and Excel, XL Reporter) and continuous improvement methodologies
Five (5) years of experience of manufacturing, equipment installation and troubleshooting support
Knowledge and experience in a manufacturing site working with maintenance and resident engineering
Travel: May include up to 10% (domestic)
