The Impact You'll Make in this Role
The 3M Health Care Privacy Officer is a global role responsible for leading the privacy program and team members supporting 3M's Health Care Business Group. This role ensures the appropriate collection and use of large volumes of patient information for some of the most innovative and leading cloud-based software solutions in the healthcare industry, including speech recognition and natural language understanding. The Health Care Privacy Officer oversees compliance activities for key regulatory frameworks including HIPAA and GDPR, and is responsible for maintaining processes to identify, analyze, and manage privacy risks in 3M's products and operations.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Maintaining privacy governance processes for 3M's Health Care Business Group including executive reporting, risk management, and operational metrics supporting 3M's privacy compliance activities.
Managing the 3M Health Care Business Group's privacy incident response process to ensure 3M's contractual commitments and regulatory breach notification obligations are met; coordinating incident response activities with internal and external stakeholder groups.
Conducting privacy impact assessments and data protection impact assessments ensuring 3M's uses of sensitive health information are permissible and managed according to privacy principles, regulatory frameworks, and contractual data use rights.
Maintaining sensitive health information inventory and record of processing activities.
Developing capabilities to de-identify, pseudonymize, and anonymize sensitive health information; advising business and product teams on data handling requirements based on defined sensitivity levels.
Assessing privacy by design requirements in product development processes.
Identifying and analyzing emerging regulatory requirements in emerging markets 3M's Health Care Business Group enters.
Overseeing annual and onboarding privacy training programs, awareness campaigns, and guidance for 3M's Health Care Business Group addressing key requirements for handling sensitive health information.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Active Certification of at least one (1) Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as, CIPP, CIPT, etc.
Seven (7) years of experience working in data privacy;
Three (3) years of experience working in the healthcare industry
Experience in managing a team of people
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Familiarity with cloud computing environments and software engineering
Ability to effectively interact globally with all areas and levels of the organization, such as legal, marketing, business operations
Ability to manage multiple high-visibility, complex technical projects
Experience with negotiating contractual privacy language with regulated healthcare entities
Broad experience with international privacy areas (especially GDPR)
Travel: Occasional travel may be required
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
Location: Salt Lake City, UT; Silver Spring, MD; or Remote
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
