The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Senior UX Design Researcher with 3M's Safety and Industrial Business Group, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Helping to define UX vision and mission with our division partners
Aligning and helping conduct user insights and business objectives
Influencing across the enterprise to remove roadblocks and increase UX team effectiveness
Coaching and training team members on UX strategy
Helping synthesize customer data from many sources to identify key strategic product and service opportunities for new 3m innovation within
Connecting UX strategy to business results
Creating research plan proposals based on business needs and gaps in research.
Employing a wide range of research methods, including generative design research and contextual inquiry, participatory design workshops, interviews, usability studies, and surveys.
Running usability tests remotely and in-person, either for groups or one-on-one. Must be willing to travel (TBD due to Covid)
Creating thorough interview discussion guides and usability test guides.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), anthropology, psychology, sociology, industrial design, design or design research.
Three (3) combined years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, researcher or UX strategist with experiences in designing solutions for desktop, web and mobile applications in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
M.S. in design strategy, interaction design, Human Computer Interaction or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
5-8 years of experience as UX practitioner (e.g. UX strategist, researcher, UX designer, interactions designer)
Experience with creating web-based products, mobile applications for iOS and Android.
Proficient with design research techniques to understand the customer (e.g., ethnographic research, contextual inquiry, concept testing, usability testing, card sorting)
Experience working collaboratively with other product managers and engineers in a variety of settings and strong communication skills with the ability to articulate positions and advocate designs.
