Shelter Veterinary Assistant
Planned PEThood of Georgia, Inc.
Are you passionate about saving lives?! Since 2010 we have performed over 35,000 spays and neuters at our spay/neuter clinic in Duluth, preventing thousands of unwanted litters in Gwinnett and surrounding counties. Our rescue division also adopts out 700+ pets a year that have been saved from Georgia shelters. In 2018, we were awarded the contract to provide veterinary services at Gwinnett County Animal Welfare & Enforcement. We need your skills to help us continue our mission! We are looking for an experienced vet tech/assistant to join our medical team at the county shelter. Experience specific to shelter medicine and/or high volume spay/neuter would be ideal but is not required. Qualified candidates should be able to safely restrain dogs and cats, collect blood samples and run basic lab work, take radiographs, assist with surgical prep, administer vaccines and medications, and monitor animals while they recover from anesthesia. You must be able to lift 40-50 pounds, get up and down from the floor repeatedly, and stand for long periods of time. You must have a positive attitude, an excellent work ethic, and be detail oriented in a fast paced, sometimes high stress, work environment. You will be expected to show initiative and be able to multitask. Planned PEThood provides veterinary services at Gwinnett County Animal Welfare & Enforcement six days a week. Work schedules are 40 hours a week, varying 9 hour shifts with one hour lunches. Planned PEThood offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and the chance to make a real difference for Georgia’s pets. Please send resume with cover letter and salary requirements directly to jodum@pethoodga.org.
