Assistant Professor - Public and International Affairs

Department: Public & International Affairs - 32421 Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Department of Public and International Affairs (PIA) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for a position as a nine-month, tenure-track assistant professor to play a role in our Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program and our new online Executive MPA program beginning August 2021. The position requires an active research program and carries a 3-3 teaching load. The candidate will teach primarily in the Master of Public Administration program but may occasionally contribute to PIA's other graduate and undergraduate programs. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: -The successful candidate must be able to teach one of our core classes in financial management and decision making or public human resource management. -The candidate also must be able to contribute to other core courses or to contribute to one of our concentrations in Public Management, Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, Urban and Regional Policy and Planning, or Coastal Planning and Management. Courses will be delivered both face to face and asynchronously online. -A doctorate in Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Policy, or a closely related field is required. -ABD candidates will be considered, however, the candidate must complete their doctorate prior to starting the position in August 2021. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience : -The preferred candidate will teach more than one of the core MPA courses and/or contribute to one of the MPA concentrations. -Prior professional experience and prior teaching experience are desirable. -Experience or willingness to teach courses online using distance education technologies is desired. -The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for all students, along with an interest in promoting diversity in their research, teaching, and service. Required Certifications or Licensure: No Required Certifications or Licensure Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department of Public and International Affairs supports the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and several minors: International Affairs, Nonprofit Management and Leadership, Political Science, Pre-Law, Public Administration, and Security Studies. At the graduate level, faculty support courses in the Master of Public Administration, the Executive Masters of Public Administration, Master of Arts in Conflict Management and Resolution, and Master of Coastal and Ocean Policy. College/School Information: The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW's largest academic unit, employing 450 full-time and 150 part-time faculty members and awarding approximately two-thirds of the university's academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.
