This is a senior position in student affairs and an officer of the campus that provides leadership and management for portions of the division of Student Affairs, whose mission is to provide transformative student experiences to foster inclusive communities, enhance academic excellence and promote life-long learning, discovery, and success. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (AVCSA) oversees seven (7) student services and academic support units including: Retention Strategies, Academic Advising, Career Center, First-year Experience and Parent and Family programs, International Affairs, Multicultural Office for Student Access, Inclusiveness and Community Engagement (MOSAIC) and LGBTQ+ Resource Center, and Veteran and Military Affairs. The AVCSA also supports the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) in the management of the Auxiliary Service units within the division.  The AVCSA is part of the campus’ strategic enrollment team and represents the division on enrollment and retention matters. Serves on the VCSA leadership team and serves as back up to the VCSA in their absence.

Relationships:

• Reporting relationship to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
• Member of the Vice Chancellor’s leadership team, as such, collaborates with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health and Wellness, Dean of Students, Senior Executive Director of Student Life and Assessment, Executive Director of Auxiliary Services, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Executive Director of Community Learning, Executive Director of the Ent Center for the Arts, and the Associate Director of Division Finance
• Works collaboratively with numerous enrollment management unit heads, academic deans, faculty, and legal services across campus to effectively meet division mission
• Campus liaison with numerous external groups

Examples of Work Performed:

• Collaborate with Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and enrollment management units on the campus strategic enrollment management plan
• Support seamless and successful program of student retention that complements and improves recruitment and enrollment along with graduation rate
• Actively work to attract, serve, and retain a diverse student body comprised of residential and commuter undergraduate students, non-traditional students, and graduate students
• Lead directors within the AVCSA’s portfolio in implementing the vision and strategic plan of the division and the university
• Supervise Executive Director and Directors within the portfolio
• Provide fiscal management, including the budget analysis, preparation, defense and management for the various operating budgets and numerous subsidiary budgets
• Ensure units of responsibility are responsive to emerging trends and best practices and changes in student demographics and expectations
• Collaborate and work closely with enrollment management units such as Admissions, Recruitment, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Orientation, and Registrar’s Office, etc.
• Oversee 3^rd party contract mentorship program
• Assist VCSA with relationship with Student Government Association (SGA)
• Assist the VCSA as needed in the management of auxiliary service units within the division
• Provide leadership during university incident response
• Serve in the rotation of officer of the day for the university

• Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in student affairs, strategic enrollment management, and the ability to effectively support a strategic enrollment management plan
• Knowledge of college student development and sensitivity to student needs
• Knowledge of the unique needs of underserved and first-generation students
• Knowledge of academic advising, career services, first-year experience programs, parent programs, multicultural affairs programs, veteran and military affairs programs, and international affairs programs
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty, administrators, students, and parents
• Skill in developing and managing budgets to include large units of at minimum $3 million
• Skill in personnel management and ability to apply state and university human resources policies
• Knowledge of the unique aspects of auxiliary service units including student fee funded units
• Ability to identify and implement innovative solutions to complex problems
• Represent the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a variety of constituents
• Knowledge of the legal framework governing student records, safety, and disciplinary proceeding
