Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is seeking a seasoned analytics professional to lead the analytic strategy development and implementation for our Pathways program. Dana-Farber Pathways (DFP) is a world class informatics solution that provides clinicians an electronic road map of the best treatments currently available for each type of cancer and for every stage of the disease. The Principal Analyst will function independently within a fast-paced environment, wear several different hats as a data engineer, business intelligence analyst, and a strategic analytics advisor to the Dana-Farber Pathways (DFP) product team. The Principal Analyst will collaborate closely with the Dana-Farber Pathways product management team, the Informatics & Analytics Strategy and Architecture team,  the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team, Philips (the Pathways informatics solution vendor), and Dana Farber disease centers to assess, develop and implement analytic solutions. The Pathways program involves designing models and creating solutions for the effective improvement of clinical outcomes for cancer care, contributing to building sustainable infrastructures, processes and systems that increase efficiencies and effectiveness in delivering patient care, and leveraging big data sources (clinical and administrative) to manage the oncology populations. Reporting to the Clinical Operations and Business Analytics (COBA) clinical vertical lead, the Principal Analyst will also have a dotted line to the Director of Pathways Operations. The Principal Analyst will work with a variety of tools (ex: R, SAS, SQL, Excel, Oracle, Tableau etc.) to access data, write queries, develop programming logic, run reports, manipulate, and analyze large datasets to meet the needs of Institute.  - Lead development of a Pathways program data governance and analytics strategy for operational purposes
- Lead all analytics projects from creation to completion using DFP & COBA Operating models
- Provide quantitative and qualitative reporting support to various DFCI departments that range from finance to clinical operations
- Collaborate with the EDW team to ingest the Pathways data as a source; lead the requirements for the Pathways Subject Area mart(s) to effectively meet all analytics and reporting needs that would require Pathways, Epic and other data
- Collaborate and consult with EDW team and the Pathways Data Engineer to design, develop and implement automated QA test harnesses for operational data
- Serve as a technical expert for compiling, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing data related to the Pathways program
- Generation of performance reports and analytics supporting the Pathway review meeting process to understand provider usage and decision making
- Identify and integrate disparate data sources, both internal and external, including raw and unstructured data from technical and non-technical teams
- Utilize business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau and Microstrategy…) to create reports and dashboards leveraging the COBA operating model
- Write and develop complex, iterative and multi-part reports and dashboards and prepare summaries of important points
- Serve as consultant to external vendor for advanced analytic platform development
- Present analytic output to senior clinical and executive leadership
- Collaborate closely and consult with the Pathways Data Engineer to understand, identify and improve Pathways data model to foster enhanced interoperability, automation and data analytics
- Build and foster an institute-wide analytic community of practice by training, educating and bringing together analysts, data stewards, business stewards and analytics consumers
- Immediately bring to the attention of the DFP Leads issues, concerns and problems which may hinder achievement of deadlines and or/ accomplishments of responsibilities
- Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed
- Bachelor’s or equivalent in Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics or related field required
- 5+ years of related work experience with at least 3 in healthcare industry or Master’s in Bioinformatics, Epidemiology or Computer Science required
- Proficiency in SQL required
- Proficiency in R programming required
- Proficiency parsing JSON files leveraging R/Python
- Experience in EHR data (e.g. Epic Clarity data model) analytics strongly preferred
- A strong desire to explore, investigate, dig, and generally uncover patterns and puzzles in data while maintaining a strong sense of thoughtful and pragmatic solutions
- Experience using business intelligence tools, such as Tableau or Microstrategy
