General Summary/ Overview The Population Health Evaluation and Research Unit, a unique unit with operational functions within Mass General Brigham (MGB) and strong academic research ties to the Mongan Institute, is seeking a Senior Healthcare Data Analyst. The Evaluation and Research Unit is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of health care delivery transformations that aim to improve care quality and value for the community of patients MGB serves. The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst will work within Population Health at MGB, in conjunction with the Mongan Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital (www.Monganinstitute.org), and will work on both operational and grant funded projects. This position involves extensive collaboration with fellow analysts, academic researchers, and clinical and operational professionals in order to conduct embedded research projects and evaluations of health care delivery transformations within the MGB network. The Senior Analyst will complete high quality analyses for a variety of projects that directly inform operational decisions and quality improvement within MGB. When appropriate, the Senior Analyst will work with academic researchers and clinical and operational professionals to produce papers, posters and other academic products from these analytic projects. The work will primarily leverage medical claims data, data from electronic medical records (Epic), and programmatic data housed within the MGB data warehouse. MGB is an integrated healthcare delivery system consisting of approximately 1000 primary care physicians; 5 acute care hospitals including two premier academic medical centers (Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital); a home health agency; and a growing insurance product. Since 2012, MGB has supported numerous population health care delivery innovations, including patient centered medical home transformation, high risk care management, behavioral health integration in primary care, enhanced substance use care, identification and support of patients with health-related social needs, mobile observation visits, and home hospitalization. https://populationhealth.partners.org/ Principal Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Evaluation and Research within Population Health in consultation with the Director of the Mongan Institute, the Senior Healthcare Data Analyst will play a key role in evaluating a wide range of health care delivery transformations implemented across the MGB network. These evaluations will be used to inform leadership decisions and to produce generalizable, publishable findings on healthcare transformation initiatives. The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst will work collaboratively with health policy / health services and clinical investigators, MGB operational and clinical leaders, and members of MGB Data and Analytics Organization as needed. The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst will join a team of four data analysts and a project coordinator. Biostatistical support and consultation is provided by a designated senior Harvard Medical School faculty member as well as researchers within the Mongan Institute. The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst is responsible for translating evaluation questions into analytic plans, constructing analytic datasets by extracting raw data (including medical claims data) from the MGB electronic data warehouse and other sources as necessary, producing appropriate data summaries, and conducting valid data comparisons and statistical tests. The Senior Analyst will work directly with implementation teams to appropriately identify intervention and comparison cohorts and will collaborate with other analysts on the team and within the Data and Analytics Organization to construct valid measures and ensure appropriate use of the data within the Warehouse. As the team grows, there will also be an increased focus on evaluating program implementation, in addition to evaluation of program outcomes. The analyst will also work closely with research and clinical experts to facilitate and support data access and analytics for academic researchers who require administrative claims data. The Senior Healthcare Data Analyst will be also be responsible for communicating evaluation findings to leadership and to the health policy community at large. Good candidates for this position will have experience conducting observational data analyses, working with raw data, and using large, longitudinal datasets. The ideal candidate has both strong analytic / methodological skills and communication skills, as well as experience working with health care and claims data. Qualifications
