Overview Mass General Brigham's board and system-wide executive leadership are making significant investments in enterprise data and digital health, enabling innovation and transformation in the delivery of health care, research and discovery. By building out core digital and data capabilities, we are supporting the achievement of Mass General Brigham's mission to drive growth and innovation in inpatient, ambulatory, and digital care. We are at the start of this journey and we are looking for talented individuals from across the nation to join us in transforming healthcare and in achieving the expected outcomes of this strategy: improved patient care, quality of care, patient engagement, and efficiency in the delivery of healthcare with excellence. In the achievement of these goals, Mass General Brigham's data and analytic teams are working together to build a system-wide data ecosystem. We are both leveraging current assets and building new, integrated solutions to provide a holistic set of industry-leading data and analytic capabilities, supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and real-time insights. Teams from Data and Analytics, Research Analytics, Clinical Data Science, and Information Systems are collaborating to build this new data and analytic ecosystem. To ensure success of this effort, Mass General Brigham is standing up a new Data and Analytics operating model with a goal of driving a level of standardization for data and analytic operations across the teams involved. The value of investments in data and analytics were proven out during our response to COVID-19 as these investments were leveraged to stand up new reporting and analytic capabilities to support executive and clinical leadership on managing the pandemic. Our broad data and analytic community has come together across Mass General Brigham 's 14 healthcare sites with shared urgency, delivering analytic tools to our system that drove timely insights in both clinical and operational domains, resulting in effective delivery of critical care and in organizational efficiencies during a time of reduced resources. Team Description The Data Analyst is a critical member of the MGB Data & Analytics Organization Enterprise Data Warehouse Data Quality and Analysis team. The EDW is made up of several teams focused on data quality and analysis, data architecture, data engineering, and user support. These teams work together in conjunction with other DAO teams to design, develop, validate, maintain, and support the EDW platform and many different analytic data assets and products. Role Summary/Overview The Data Analyst reporting directly to the Manager of Data Quality and Analysis will specifically be responsible to: • Ensure data and analytic assets being developed within the DAO contain accurate data that meet the desired business goals • Promote and advocate quality assurance practices across the DAO; drive development of data quality standards and best practices • Perform tasks spanning the full lifecycle of data management activities • Work in conjunction with his/her team, data architects, developers, and subject matter experts to develop analytic products and ensure accurate, valid, reliable, and timely results • Develop an in depth knowledge of our data and data structures as well as the ability to translate business requirements into SQL programming logic • Work with multiple sources of healthcare data (ex: claims, financial, and clinical data) to deliver high value analytic assets PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Responsible for completing thorough quality assurance procedures ensuring accuracy, reliability, and validity of work and data • Perform data validation on data marts and other data and analytic assets to ensure products meet the business needs and requirements • Develop and coordinate all testing artifacts and activities (test strategy, test plan, test cases, and test results) • Understand business and product needs and be able to perform data profiling; interpret and report on results to demonstrate quality or surface possible data integrity issues • Collect and translate business requirements to establish data quality rules for data engineers to implement • Retrieve, organize, and manipulate data from the Enterprise Data Warehouse and other data sources. Projects range from simple programming to more advanced techniques • Present analytical findings in a variety of formats (Excel, reports, PowerPoint, Tableau, graphs, figures, and tables), formulating recommendations, and effectively presenting results to broad range of audiences including stakeholders, end users, team members and others • Work with a variety of tools (ex: SQL, IDQ, Excel, Tableau, etc) to access data, write queries, develop programming logic, create dashboards, run reports, manipulate, and analyze large data sets to meet the needs of Partners DAO and its business partners • Comprehend business requirements and user stories to surface questions or potential gaps in requirements or data • Collaborate on the development, modification, and validation of new and existing data quality controls • Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications and source to target mappings for data engineers • Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications • At least 2 years of experience in professional QA/Tester experience, including data validation and data analysis, preferably in healthcare. • Must be detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to conduct effective research • Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to take initiative • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Proficiency in SQL is required • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES • Experience with healthcare data is strongly preferred (ex: claims, clinical, and financial) • Working knowledge of Tableau or other data visualization software is preferred • Knowledge of data structures and relational database concept is preferred • Experience with SQL Server platform is preferred • Adept at establishing trusted relationships at all levels across the organization and collaborating across multi-functional teams • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and industry concepts quickly and be able to apply them • Ability to capture complex and negative test case scenarios • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders with competing priorities • Experience working in environments where Agile, Scrum, DevOps practices are used a plus but not required • Understanding of ETL methodologies and Data Warehousing principles, approaches, technologies, and architectures including the concepts, designs, and usage of data warehouses and data marts a plus but not required • Experience in writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures a plus but not required • Experience with Informatica Data Quality a plus but not required • Able to quickly adapt and learn in an ever changing healthcare environment WORKING CONDITIONS • MGB has implemented special remote working policies due to COVID-19. These policies are subject to change; however, it is currently expected that this position will work remotely (e.g. from home) full time through June 2021 • When present on-site in Somerville, standard office environment • The noise level on-site in the work environment is quiet to moderate • This position may require occasional local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and/or conferences • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch.
