General Summary/Overview Statement: Partners Specialty Pharmacy is a not-for-profit wholly owned subsidiary of Partners HealthCare targeted to open in late summer 2017. The Partners Specialty Pharmacy will serve Partners Healthcare patients from a centrally managed location in the Boston area with support from local entity clinics and pharmacy departments. The Partners Specialty Pharmacy will deliver high quality services with an emphasis on patient education, service excellence and comprehensive care management. Partners Specialty Pharmacy will serve as an integral link between patient and provider, efficiently providing first-rate service to optimize patient outcomes and achieve organizational financial goals. Therapeutic areas of focus will include Hematology, Oncology, inflammatory conditions, Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS and Multiple Sclerosis The Pharmacy Intern will complete the following responsibilities under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor. The intern will additionally be tasked with learning the role of the pharmacist and taking on clinical activities based on their knowledge and at the direction of the pharmacist preceptor. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Work with physicians, nurses and pharmacists to ensure that each patient receives the medications he/she needs at the appropriate time: Review medication regime with patient to determine which medications need to be dispensed Process medication orders confirming that they are billed to all third parties correctly Monitor patient concerns, charts and profiles to meet their medication therapy needs Assist in education efforts for PHSP: Answer patient questions about the service Provide patient education materials and information about other resources Intern may support patient care by answering specific clinical questions under the direct guidance of a pharmacist Commit to Building Relationships: Provide caring service, adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served Improve processes to facilitate communication and service between patient, and clinic, infusion center and discharge pharmacy teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of medications Assist with insurance benefit investigation and processing: Understand Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing guidelines as they pertain patient pharmacy benefits Understand billing primary, secondary and tertiary insurance claims Obtain benefit information and verify patient insurance eligibility and level of coverage Obtain Prior Authorizations for medications. Assist Clinical Coordinators with tasks as assigned: Assist in special projects as assigned by preceptor Demonstrates Commitment to Patients: Treats other employees with dignity and respect Demonstrates open, honest communication and behavior Resolves conflict in a positive manner Contributes to the productivity of the workgroup Use/s the Partners HealthCare values to govern decisions, actions and behaviors.
