General Summary/Overview Statement Reporting to the Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer (CSTO), the SVP of Strategy for Mass General Brigham will primarily be responsible for informing, shaping, refreshing, and advancing the system-wide strategy, and each of its components, for Mass General Brigham. Mass General Brigham's strategy is the single strategy for the system and lays out our priorities, goals and plans for building the integrated academic healthcare system of the future with patients at the center, transforming care and its affordability, improving outcomes, and extending our impact locally, regionally, and nationally. This highly visible role will be working with senior leaders throughout the entire Mass General Brigham system - including the academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, community hospitals and Allways Health Partners (AHP) - to continuously evolve our strategy, provide analysis for and develop plans around our strategic priorities, translate our strategic priorities to those who will implement them, and measure progress and performance. Principal Duties and Responsibilities • At least every five years, working with the CSTO and our system leaders, develop our system strategy • Lead defining, analyzing, planning and tracking all parts of our system strategy and strategic priorities, working with senior leadership and key stakeholders across our institutions and functions, and, in particular, with those in Business Development (BD), Innovation & Commercialization, Value Based Care (VBC), Patient Experience, Research & Education, Finance, and Operations. • Continuously scan and understand the market for strategic threats, insights and opportunities • Work with Technology and Digital Health leadership to understand market threats, insights and opportunities from a digital perspective • Perform, coordinate and oversee internal and external analysis on strategic threats and opportunities and priority strategic questions and planning requests that arise, and provide advice accordingly • Play a key role in reviewing business cases (most often developed by Business Development department) for implementing new parts of the strategy • Work with strategy leaders at our hospitals and Physician Organizations (POs), at AllWays Health Partners, and for VBC to translate system strategy to local implementation strategies and priorities • Work with Operations, Clinical Business Development, etc. to translate the system strategy into cross-system implementation plans and ensure implementation across the system • Work closely with peers who lead system contracting, clinical partnerships and M&A, other elements of business planning, data analytics, digital strategy, etc. • Work closely with colleagues who lead DE&I, health equity and community health • Assess performance progress in achieving the system strategy and trouble-shoot as necessary • Refresh elements of the system strategy on an annual basis • Work with the CTSO, System Transformation leadership, and regularly with the System VP of Internal Communications on keeping our people informed about, and engaged in, the strategy and associated system transformation • Work with the CTSO to keep our system board and the appropriate committees educated about, and to support the education of local boards about, system strategy, progress, and industry trends • Work with the CTSO, SVP of Network Development and Clinical Partnerships and M&A and appropriate administrative and clinical leaders on translating strategies into the right traditional and non-traditional clinical partnerships and M&As; continuously scanning the ecosystem, providing related information and insights, and supporting partner selection, assessments, and pursuits • Drive continuous organizational learning about strategic planning • Other duties as required Qualifications • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare, or related field preferred • 5-10 years of executive level experience, with a minimum 15 years total experience in strategy-related roles • Healthcare experience is a strong plus Skills/Abilities/Competencies • Skilled at strategic planning and analysis and in performing ongoing market and competitive assessment, complex analysis (opportunity sizing, financial, operational, etc.) and basic modelling around strategic questions and opportunities. • Skilled at distilling market insights and making recommendations and the development and review of business plans • Highly knowledgeable and skilled in project design and management, people and team management, effecting alignment, performance measurement, and change management • Experienced in managing cross-functional internal teams and in sourcing, selecting, and managing external advisors and consultants • Demonstrated ability to effectively develop and maintain relationships in a highly complex and changing environment. • Adept at partnering with, facilitating among, and influencing senior leaders. • Exceptional communications skills including strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills • Proven ability to manage and motivate in a complex and changing environment • Skilled in managing difficult conversations and negotiation with clinicians and administrators, at all levels, but particularly senior leaders • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems • Excellent organizational skills • Strong facilitation skills • Able to self-manage and make tactical decisions • Skilled in Microsoft Office products • Possesses an understanding of computer system capabilities to address process requirements EEO Statement MGB is an Equal Opportunity Employer & by embracing diverse skills, perspectives and ideas, we choose to lead.
