General Overview The Mass General Brigham (MGB) Associate Director of Occupational Health Services serves primarily in the director role of OHS at the Brigham Health academic medical center (BH OHS director) and reports directly to the MGB Chief Medical Officer of the Occupational Health Services (OHS). This position also works collaboratively with the Vice President of Human Resources for Brigham Health and the MGB Director of OHS. In addition to providing direct oversight of the OHS daily clinic operations for Brigham Health, the MGB Associate Director provides oversight of the Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital (BWFH) OHS director who is responsible for the operations of the BWFH OHS clinic and OHS services at the Spaulding Roxbury Hospital (SRH) West Roxbury site. The MGB Associate Director has some additional MGB responsibilities and engages collaboratively with other OHS directors/managers across the MGB OHS system to foster relationships for the purpose of providing services in a coordinated manner across the enterprise. Principal Duties and Responsibilities The central role of the MGB Associate Director of OHS is serving as the Brigham Health OHS director who is responsible for the program at the BH OHS clinic. He/she is responsible for securing appropriate staffing to ensure the clinic operates efficiently and provides excellent customer service. The Brigham Health OHS director is responsible for ensuring that clinic operations remain within the designated budget and for implementing and overseeing budget initiatives. The Brigham Health OHS director is responsible for providing daily leadership to and management of the clinical staff. This includes: recruiting and selecting clinicians with an appropriate skill set and knowledge base to provide occupational health services; overseeing the orientation and training of clinical staff to ensure that they are current with changes in the clinic and in occupational health practice, engaging with staff to provide feedback and coaching in a positive and proactive manner, and exemplifying the role of an occupational health professional. He/she should regularly engage in case and chart review and have a systematic approach to performance review that incorporates evaluating the clinical care provided by each clinician. As needed, he/she develops a corrective action, coaching and monitoring plan to address deficits identified in performance evaluation. In order to execute this role, he/she must be knowledgeable regarding OHS clinical guidelines and workflow. The Brigham Health OHS director provides consultation to Brigham Health Human Resources staff, affiliate leadership, and managers on occupational health matters including the interpretation of regulations and standards, potential organizational exposure and liability, surveillance requirements, fitness for duty cases, job accommodations, and injury and exposure prevention. The Brigham Health OHS director is responsible for outcomes related to workers compensation. This requires that the director fosters collaboration between the OHS and the MGB Workers Compensation Division, works effectively with claims and nurse case managers, and develops and maintains an effective working relationship with the Workers Compensation Division Manager. The Brigham Health OHS director should be proficient with statistical analysis, outcome measures and the development and provision of presentations. He/she provides oversight of the occupational health outcome tracking and reporting. He/she is responsible for disseminating occupational health data and outcomes to key stakeholders at the sites that he/she is overseeing. This role is responsible for oversight of the Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital OHS director who runs operations at BWFH and for OHS services provided to SRH West Roxbury. The MGB Associate Director of Occupational Health is a member of the MGB Workplace Health and Wellness and Occupational Health Services leadership team. This MGB role involves assisting with identifying and managing enterprise wide occupational health objectives, identifying budget and resource needs, and coordinating communication and activity between the affiliate and enterprise levels. Qualifications Qualifications • Strongly prefer at least 5+ years of direct clinical experience, preferably in Nursing, and at least 5+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience; which includes experience managing clinical staff. • A combination of 7-10 yrs clinical and progressive healthcare leadership experience will also be considered. Skills, Abilities and Competencies • Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams including staff at all levels of the organization • Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds an levels within and external to the organization • Strong problem solving and negotiation skills • Ability to effectively conduct meetings, both formal and informal • Requires minimal direction from leadership and possesses the ability to learn quickly • Proficiency in data analysis • Possible local travel to MGB sites Supervisory Responsibility • Direct reports: All OHS clinic staff (clinical and administrative) at Brigham and Women's Hospital, as well as the BWFH OHS Director, and the MGB OHS Float Clinician. Fiscal Responsibility • Responsible for implementing all budget initiatives for the sites he/she oversees and tracking temporary nursing utilization at those sites. Also responsible for assisting with the identification and tracking of workers compensation cases and clinic visit volume.
