The Emergency Department at OHSU provides patient-centered care to individuals across the age continuum in a psychiatric emergency situation or who may be experiencing behavioral dysregulation. Using effective teamwork between dedicated Cognitive-Behavioral RNs, Social Work, Emergency Department Physicians, and Case Management, interventions are provided until a patients discharge, or psychiatric inpatient placement can be obtained.
The teams goal is to provide the best possible evidence-based care to patients in crisis and create systems to support.
In this role, your primary focus will be to drive care for patients experiencing a crisis, suicidal ideation, or behavioral dysregulation within the Emergency Department. You will report to the Emergency Department director and collaborate with leadership positions throughout Emergency Services.
As the ED Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will coordinate with Emergency Medicine Physicians, Cognitive Behavioral RNs, Social Workers, and Case Managers to create and implement individualized care plans for psychiatric patients. You will help to monitor restraint and seclusion use in the Emergency Department, providing feedback and implementing plans for reduction or appropriate use of restraints in the ED. You will also be instrumental in leading strategic initiatives related to cognitive-behavioral care within the Emergency Department.
This Advanced Practice Provider is a faculty member credentialed and privileged to serve as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) at OHSU. You will be a member of the OHSU professional staff practicing following the respective bylaws. You shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service. You will be expected to comply with the scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.
Masters Degree as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider Role.
3-5 years of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in a locked inpatient or Emergency Department setting
Current licensure as required by particular Advanced Practice Provider governing board(s). National Certification PMHNP
Unencumbered criminal background check
Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License or Endorsement by the start date
Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Advanced Practice Nurse License or Endorsement by the start date
BLS/for healthcare providers must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA by the start date(upload documentation with online application)
Must have excellent communication and reflection skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team, and the flexibility to delegate, prioritize, and adapt in stressful situations
Experience in complex organizational environments.
Ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description.
Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
