Working Title: Military/Veteran Student Services Coordinator
Appointment Type: AS-Renewable
The Military/Veteran Student Services (MVSS) Coordinator provides leadership and serves as a resource offering expertise and financial support services for all student veterans, students in active military service, and/or their eligible student family members. Key responsibilities include the certification and coordination of all military/veteran education benefits, advising students on additional financial aid program eligibility, outreach to community and technical colleges to increase military/veteran student transfers and working one on one with individual students to resolve issues with receipt of benefits. The MVSS Coordinator participates in new and transfer student orientation and advocates for programs and services specific to this unique population. The MVSS Coordinator oversees the Military/Veterans Student Services Office, including the hiring and supervision of student employees (VA Work Study). This position also provides administrative resources and support to the Military/Veteran Student Services Steering Committee and the veteran campus service organization (Vet's Club.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's Degree or higher
Personal advising and/or counseling experience
Knowledge of the different military and veteran education benefit programs
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies. Preferred:
Previous military service or experience
Prior experience supervising employees
Proven ability to work independently under limited supervision
Prior experience working with veterans and/or members of the military and their families
Demonstrated understanding of the unique needs of the military/veteran student population
Experience working with government programs and benefits
Work experience in a college or university
Ability to work successfully with diverse populations.
Proven record of establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships at all levels.
