TCCS, founded in 1925, borrowed from the Oxford model, organizing around a library and other common facilities. Today this distinguished cluster of private colleges is one of our nation's greatest centers of liberal arts, science and engineering education for almost 7,000 students.
The role: Reporting to the CIO, the purpose of the Director of Infrastructure Services is to oversee the networking, telecommunications, cable plant, and other related services that are utilized by The Claremont Colleges and TCCS. The position is also responsible for the TCCS server infrastructure, on premise and cloud. All services are maintained utilizing a combination of in house staff, contractors, and external managed services. You will be responsible for ensuring service levels and client expectations are met and exceeded and plans strategy for continuous improvement of the delivery of services.
The Infrastructure Services team and director play an integral role in collaborative projects done with The Claremont Colleges, the ideal candidate is experienced with leading and managing small teams of ~6-8 staff with best practices in performance management, team building, and project coordination and will be experienced working with vendors as part of the service delivery model.
Knowledge and Experience you will bring to the team:
A Bachelor's degree plus eight (8) years of professional experience or ten (10) years of experience with the role's responsibilities. Experience must include: (years' experience may run concurrently) o Eight (8) years' experience implementing and supporting infrastructure services o Four (4) years' experience working in a client serving environment o Four (4) year experience hiring, training, and managing employees
Experience participating in collaborative work groups
Demonstrated knowledge managing professional employees
Demonstrated knowledge writing and presenting in a business/management capacity
Demonstrated knowledge leading small working groups or teams to accomplish projects and objectives
Demonstrated technical aptitude and understanding of application best practices
Demonstrated ability to lead projects that have high impact, visibility, and/or degree of complexity
Demonstrated familiarity with change management practices
Knowledge of general HR best practices for hiring, evaluating, developing, and performance managing employees
Knowledge of budget allocations to meet assigned objectives
Knowledge of utilizing service management tools and processes
Ability to look at internal workflow and design/implement improvements
Ability to multitask and work both independently and within a team with equal effectiveness Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Excellent customer service orientation
Experience we'd prefer you have:
Experience working in an institution of higher education
Familiarity working with higher education governance groups
Experience negotiating with vendors for products and services
Familiarity with developing and implementing disaster recovery plans
