The City of Reno seeks a City Manager who is an independent leader with well-defined leadership qualities that people respect and trust. The duties of the City Manager are to plan, direct, manage, and oversee the activities and operations of the City of Reno. Candidates should be prepared to represent the City to all departments and outside agencies and organizations and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Council.
The City has a growing population of over 250,000 and is the center of commerce and culture in Northern Nevada. It is the gateway to Lake Tahoe, entertainment, and outdoor recreation with a temperate climate year-round characterized by sunshine more than 80% of the year. Reno is a full-service city with a total budget of just over $500 million and approximately 1,271 full-time equivalent employees.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in government, including five years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
Training Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly desirable and an ICMA-CM certification is preferred.
