The Controllers Division delivers subject matter expertise, counsel, governance, and oversight for all Wells Fargo controllership activities to the business units and staff groups. The division includes the following functional areas: Accounting Business Unit Support, Accounting Operations, Enterprise Controls & Oversight, Enterprise Financial Reporting, and Corporate Tax.

The External Reporting Strategic Initiatives Implementation Leader is responsible for the overall strategic direction, coordination, and execution of significant initiatives and report implementation efforts within the Enterprise External Financial Reporting function. This role will act as an advocate for senior management in the execution of strategic initiatives and report implementations. Primary responsibilities include ensuring that strategic initiatives are organized, communicated proactively, involve all necessary stakeholders, and executed effectively in-line with other strategic firm-wide initiatives.
Along with implementation oversight, this role provides technical expertise regarding accounting, reporting and regulatory information and research. Duties include leading cross functional teams to strategize, plan and execute a variety of programs, services and initiatives that are significant in scope, complexity, and risk. Provides leadership in the management of relationships and implementation of programs, services, or initiatives with cross functional business partners, recognizing the significance of competing priorities and strategies, and adjusting as necessary. Works with functional management to obtain resources, influence outcomes, address conflict and ensure alignment with WF strategy and policies aligned with business objectives. Ensures programs adhere to appropriate policies and regulations. Arranges funding, resources, and manages a cross-functional team to accomplish the work efficiently.
This role is instrumental in developing and transforming our current regulatory reporting processes to leverage automated data processes and controls across the organization. The initial data quality and automation efforts are focused on the accurate and timely filing of the FFIEC 101, FR Y-9C, FR Y-14Q/M, FR Y-15, FFIEC 009, FR 2900 and other Regulatory and Basel reports. This role will ensure the implementation is well coordinated across the various stakeholders throughout our Technology, Data, 3rd Party Vendors, and broader Finance organizations.
A candidate on this team must have a strong understanding and knowledge of financial institutions, including various departments, businesses, and products common to such organizations. Additionally, a successful candidate will need to partner with other functions throughout the firm (operations, technology, controllers, etc.) to accomplish strategic initiatives. Candidates for this team also must have a broad knowledge base in technical accounting and regulatory reporting for financial products. In addition, a successful candidate will have a deep understanding of regulatory reports and underlining instructions at the line-item level across various regulatory reports.
The External Reporting Strategic Initiatives Leader will:
Serve as Report Owner during implementation efforts for Wells Fargo's financial reports filed with the U.S. Banking Regulatory Agencies (Agencies)
Provide strategic leadership and vision for the report implementation efforts
Manage relationships with business partners across the company to ensure their complete understanding of the financial report implementation impacts to their lines of business
Successfully manage relationships with all oversight and regulatory entities including the Agencies and internal audit during implementation and support for decisions made throughout those implementation efforts
Manage effectively in a matrixed organization, create a strong collaborative environment, partnerships with many business and functional areas across Wells Fargo including Corporate Risk, Corporate Treasury, and with team members at all levels of the organization
Drive organizational change and develop innovative solutions
Hire, lead, retain, develop and motivate a world-class team of professionals
Maintain a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency

5+ years of management experience
10+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting
A BS/BA degree or higher in one or a combination of the following: Finance, Accounting, Analytics, or Reporting
Demonstrated success managing in a matrixed environment
Other Desired Qualifications
Certified Public Accountant
Senior Accounting Leader with extensive experience supporting large, complex teams and functions
At least 10 years of experience in Financial Services
Extensive experience with and understanding of US GAAP and/or regulatory reporting requirements
Expert understanding of current financial and regulatory requirements (e.g. Basel III capital reporting requirements, Call Reports, etc.)
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills combined with strategic business focus
Ability to translate complex technical concepts so they are clearly understood to support sound decisions
Exceptional track record of delivering results
Ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization, create a strong collaborative environment, develop partnerships with many business and functional areas across Wells Fargo
Ability to drive organizational change and develop innovative solutions
Detailed knowledge of COSO and internal control over financial reporting (ICFR)
