Serve as director for opera and musical theatre productions, showcases and workshops in the Conservatory; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in opera and/or musical theatre, according to field of expertise and the needs of the Conservatory; work collaboratively with the Conservatory faculty in choosing repertoire, casting, developing classes and coursework, and the general production of lyric theatre; work as a liaison between UMKC Theatre and our producing partners, including the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and our Young Artist Program partners at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City; maintain a national professional profile that reflects the career of a distinguished artist/scholar; contribute to the creative/scholarly, academic and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the diverse cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community; participate actively in the intellectual life of the Conservatory and university by serving on committees and engaging in other Conservatory activities; contribute to curriculum development, faculty governance and administrative activity of the Theatre Division.
Demonstrated successful and innovative experience in directing for opera and musical theatre, preferably at the university level; excellent collaborative skills and significant professional experience in opera and musical theater; documented success as an artistic leader; strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching; significant professional experience at the regional and/or national level as an director/scholar; terminal degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.

This is a full time, benefit eligibe, tenure-track or ranked non-tenure track position with a appointment date of September 1, 2020.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ABOUT THE THEATRE DIVISION: UMKC Theatre is beginning a new chapter in its long history and has now become part of the UMKC Conservatory. The mission of the program is to assist the creative student in making the journey to becoming a creative professional. The practice of the department is to vigorously educate students in the many arts, crafts and traditions of theatre, and to provide a basis for future careers in the creative industries. Our program offers intensive hands-on experience while at the same time fostering analytical and contextual skills. The practical experience of theatre-making occurs not only within the performing venues of UMKC, but also in professional theatres in Kansas City including our partner, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre.
