This position develops, maintains and expands relationships with key federal agencies (especially the Ground Vehicle Systems Center), and other Automotive organizations in the larger Detroit area, who are relevant to the strategic intent of SAE Industry Technologies Consortia®, SAE ITC® and its affiliates, SAE International® and DATCTM. The position interacts with multi stakeholders (Executives, Operations, Engineering/Design, Repair, Maintenance and Quality) in highly complex environments to communicate the strengths and opportunities SAE ITC provides. The candidate will identify and develop strategic partnerships, federal funding proposals, drive applicable grant activities, and achieve other industry support and revenue generating opportunities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Generates new business and revenue for the organization by understanding and navigating a highly complex, multi-sector environment, with emphasis on the Automotive Sector, to identify relevant revenue generating opportunities.
Work closely on the DATC program (an affiliate of SAE-ITC) to develop a good understanding of DATC’s main customer (Ground Vehicle Systems Center), DATC’s Consortium members, and DATC day to day operations. Assist DATC to improve consortium member retention and further develop DATC tools to communicate with existing DATC consortium members. Reach out to Automotive industry executives and gain an understanding of the value that DATC can bring to them.
Builds, develops and establishes strategic relationships by attending committee meetings, summits, and other automotive, and government (military) related activities. Sustain budgets, planning, contracts, etc. Adapt a broader perspective to understanding the relationships and serve as an executive presence in the area.
Drives proposal activity in key technical areas aligned with SAE ITC overall strategy by helping to establish new programs and ensure successful implementation. Applies program management skills, grant writing and proposal development experience to address and mature new program opportunities. Acts as a key resource in interfacing with finance and legal in establishing new programs.
Promotes and supports the activities of the larger SAE Group (SAEI, PRI, TechBriefs, etc.) by maintaining a communication link between SAE ITC programs, other SAE Group stakeholders and the local, state, national government agencies, especially locally based military agencies in the larger Detroit area. Expands other business unit interaction that can include but not limited to: events, publications, marketing, etc. particularly from a multi-sector, global and international relationship development perspective, leveraging in particular the mobility industry resources and contacts available in the larger Detroit area.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in Engineering or Business Administration. Master's degree preferred.
12+ years of experience in business and/or associations including at least five years of experience working with government agencies particularly DOD, or equivalent, required
10 years of working in the automotive engineering community
5 years contract, proposal and grant development
3 years working with data systems (software, databases, cybersecurity)
Project management experience, required
Position of leadership in active or support of Military Services
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Expert at high level government interface in multiple sectors
Experience in grant writing and proposal development
Experience in marketing and promoting technical programs
Knowledge of government procurement processes
Understanding of trade association operations and breadth of contacts in government and industry
Knowledge of automotive, aerospace and commercial vehicle sectors
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds
Strong organizational and planning skills
Strong team development and leadership skills
Knowledge of software and database systems and associated security
Strong computer skills including MS Office and typical office application software
Ability to travel 30%
