Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the University and support the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO), interacting with SEVIS and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to prepare the Form I-20 and report information about international students. Additionally, this position will directly advise international students regarding obtaining and maintaining their visa status by providing guidance and resources during their admission process, enrollment, and employment authorization period upon completion of study. This position serves as the primary liaison between graduate schools and the OISS to enhance workflow and improve our services for international students. This position will also provide advice and support to the Pepperdine community on a broad spectrum of complex and sensitive immigration, visa, and employment issues and regulations, as well as mindful considerations and best practices for the University as hosts of graduate international students.
Serve as point of contact for university administrators in Pepperdine graduate programs regarding the production of the form I-20, as well as the primary contact for graduate students with regard to the production of the form I-20, assisting students via phone, email and face-to-face contact.
Perform other regular duties as a designated school official (DSO). Some of these duties include assisting students via phone, email and face-to-face contact with obtaining and successfully maintaining their visa status; SEVIS reporting; authorizing curricular practical training; recommending optional practical training; endorsing form I-20 for travel and reentry; providing resources regarding the H1B; change of status and reinstatement cases; and serve as a liaison with the Department of Homeland Security
Assist with the standardization and centralization of student data, required documents, and interdepartmental policies in accordance with government, institutional, and OISS policies. Serve as the liaison between graduate school representatives and the OISS in workflow and service improvements, initiating discussion and enacting solutions.
Assist in further educating administration regarding issues pertaining to international students and maintaining compliance with the government, University, and OISS policies and regulations. Ensure orientation occurs for all international graduate students and acquaint students with resources that could be helpful to their acclimation and success. Help lead the advocacy for international graduate students with campus partners in daily work and through the International Student Advisory Council. Seek opportunities to build meaningful fellowship and community to promote engaged alumni.
Stay updated on industry standards and regulatory information to implement and recommend best practices related to immigration, information systems and technology, and communications via various professional development opportunities virtual, on and off campus.
Contribute as a positive resource for the OISS and international students in the work above.

Skills and Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree, online training course "SEVIS Training for School Officials," reading and understanding of regulations related to: non-immigrant students, change of non-immigration classification for students, and school approval and withdrawal of school approval by the government; Attention to detail and accuracy; Effective communication and writing skills; Evidence of a collaborative work style; Exceptional interpersonal skills to aid in influencing change to improve the international student experience and workflow among units; Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time to comply with deadlines mandated by law, as well as deadlines based on and imposed by school calendars and students' schedules (including appointments with the government, travel plans, and emergencies that require immediate attention and action); Approachable and student-friendly demeanor; Ability to take direction and work independently; Fundamental computer skills; Familiarity with immigration case management systems such as SUNAPSIS, FSA Atlas, or Terra Dotta.
Preferred: Master's degree; At least one year of work experience as a DSO or PDSO in a higher education environment; Knowledge of immigration laws; Experience working in a US education environment; Demonstrated Christian faith; Experience living outside the United States or directly with international students in a higher education environment; Fluency in a language other than English; Outstanding communication skills including listening skills; Interest and experience in regulatory issues on federal, state, and local level (Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Labor, Social Security Administration, International Revenue Service, Department of Motor Vehicles) and cultural issues; Insight into the international student experience; Demonstrated cultural competency; Advanced computer skills; Experience with immigration case management systems such as SUNAPSIS, FSA Atlas, or Terra Dotta;
