College of Arts and Sciences - Applied Language Institute (ALI)
The University of Missouri-Kansas City is seeking an Assistant Dean for its Applied Language Institute (ALI). Duties consist of administration of all phases of ALI to include budgeting, program development and direction; coordination with academic units on ESL related matters, recruitment and marketing; placement and enrollment direction and supervision; faculty and staff hiring, and supervision of curriculum planning and development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage an annual budget of over $2M.
Develop, negotiate, and implement customized programs.
Work with academic and administrative departments on English proficiency requirements for custom and regular programs.
Oversee course design, scheduling and delivery, and teach courses as needed by the program.
Design innovative products that meet the needs of various audiences, including internal and international constituents.
Build and utilize a network of corporate and agency contacts, locally and internationally, to build, grow, and diversify the ALI.
Serve as liaison to external constituents, including partner universities, sponsoring agencies, grantors, contract partners, foreign and US governments, and international education organizations.
Supervise admission, registration, testing and placement, orientation, housing and support services for ALI students.
Collaborate with other campus units, to oversee/consult on admissions policies, comprehensive recruitment plans, and international marketing materials.
Travel within the USA and overseas.
Doctorate degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or closely related field.
Experience teaching ESL to non-native speakers in a post-secondary educational setting.
Experience in developing ESL curriculum for a variety of purposes and language levels.
Experience and successful record of accomplishment in university intensive English program administration and fiscal management.
Experience in international student recruitment.
Ability to travel within the USA and overseas.
International experience in teaching or education administration.
Supervisory experience of administrative and instructional staff.
Experience with budget projection/management.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including cross-cultural communication competencies.
Ability to identify market changes, react to educational needs, and create or adapt programs accordingly.
Awareness of immigration regulations as they impact intensive English program enrollments.
Recruitment and management experience of international students and instructional staff.
Evidence of commitment to the field of international education (demonstrated professional involvement: i.e. publications, presentations, grants, engagement with TESOL, NAFSA or other relevant international education organizations).
Experience teaching MA-TESOL courses.
