The Communications team's mission is to be a trusted business advisor and partner that provides strategic counsel on media strategy to senior business leaders within Moody's Investors Service (MIS), the ratings agency within Moody's Corporation.
The SVP of Communications is responsible for creating a highly effective media strategy that is aligned with MIS's ratings and research objectives. This includes understanding news cycles and trends within financial services and capital markets and proactively identifying opportunities to promote relevant thought leadership pieces to investors through traditional, online and broadcast media outlets. A critical component of the role is providing inspired and enabling leadership to a team of media strategists and content experts who work with specific lines of business (Financial Institutions, Structured Finance, Public Finance, and Infrastructure Finance Groups) to execute on the strategy. Key responsibilities include:
Strategic thinking : creates strategic plans to promote MIS's research and thought leadership to various traditional, online and broadcast media outlets.
People leadership: manages a team of New York-based media strategists and content experts and sets the day to day priorities to execute on strategic media plans.
Relationship management: directly manages the Financial Institutions group relationship and media plan, and together with their team, is responsible for senior level relationships within Structured Finance, Public Finance, Project and Infrastructure Finance and the ESG team (Environmental, Social and Governance).
Driving results : monitors news cycles and trends to identify opportunities to promote or resurface research to relevant print, online, social and broadcast media and achieve desired "share of voice" results.
Innovation : ensures team is aware of new media trends and is leveraging external best practices to increase effectiveness of media relations activities.
Media management : builds and maintains strategic relationships with journalists to identify promotion opportunities and to manage risk.
Analyst training : conducts in-person interview and media training to ensure MIS analysts are prepared to be interviewed for print/online media and on top-tier broadcast outlets.
Global alignment: coordinates with global communications counterparts in EMEA and APAC, and works with other groups in Moody's who support the rating agency's research promotion goals.
Undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism or Finance.
A minimum of 10 years' experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism, ideally within the financial services sector or corporate environment. PR agency or journalist experience and asset.
