We are looking for talented physicists at varying levels of experience to expand our family of innovative-technologists. We want creative, adaptable and disciplined scientists who are inspired to develop novel and multi-disciplinary solutions to complex and rapidly evolving problems, at all stages of technology readiness: from concept through production. Qualified candidates may originate from any experimental physics specialty, however; scientists who have established a large “toolbox” of capabilities in a laboratory setting, to include experience with one or more of the following areas: vacuum, low temperatures, high temperatures and high-voltage electrical systems; basic electronics; conventional and specialized diagnostics; experience with measurement apparatus ranging from multimeters to network analyzers; and familiarity with data acquisition and analysis tools such as LabVIEW and MATLAB, and signal-processing methods contained within will distinguish themselves from other applicants. Our innovation-technology needs are multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary; and our advanced capabilities for customers and users exploit a variety of physical phenomenology. Experienced candidates should be versed in one or more of the following technology-thrust areas: high-energy lasers and diagnostics; electromagnetics and their application to EMI/EMP diagnostics, directed-energy and direction-finding antennas and high-powered microwave systems; advanced methods of acoustic generation and event detection; and methods of imaging through optically or electromagnetically opaque exteriors. We are also looking for talent with proven knowledge in the following areas, including: compact LiDAR systems, laser-Doppler vibrometry, single-pixel imaging, and application of algorithms related to compressive sampling, neural networks and deep learning. New graduate level candidates must have hands-on experience with hardware and demonstrate the ability to handle rapidly shifting responsibilities.
Engage in computer modeling, simulation and analysis of acoustic, optical or electromagnetic antennas, sensors and/or systems as a guideline to developing advanced prototype systems; Assist in the design, noise analysis, manufacture, testing, analysis and requirements validation of advanced prototype acoustic, optical or EM antenna/sensor systems; Lead or support preparation of test plans, both for on-site and off-site activities, seeking to validate key features of technologies developed under program; Conceptualize advanced-technology capabilities based on novel applications of physics principles or amalgamation of multiple physical phenomenology; Prepare technical reports and deliver technical briefings as required by program. Work and communicate well with others and be capable of multitasking, seamlessly integrating into teams of four to ten members, and managing time effectively. Clear and competent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey key scientific highlights concisely to peers and convey to government subject experts and end users how the proposed advanced technology will solve their problem. A B.S. or M.S. degree in Physics or Applied Physics and 2-10 years of relevant experience; or a recent Ph.D. in Physics with concentration in relevant experimental discipline. More recent B.S. candidates should have laboratory experience beyond required coursework, or equivalent experience by way of company internship or independent research projects.
The position requires U.S. Citizenship, the ability to secure and maintain a government security clearance, and availability for periodic travel. Though not required, prior military experience coupled with science and technology advancement, and prior experience in proposal writing are beneficial and welcomed competencies.
