The School of Medicine, at the University of Missouri in Columbia, invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Dermatology. The Department of Dermatology consists of 12 faculty members, 11 residents and fellows, and a growing endowment supporting a chairmanship, dermatology research, the dermatology library, and a lectureship. The department has a 55 year history of excellence in its clinical and educational programs, and has grown a model clinical research enterprise. The department is mission based to serve the underserved and has used teledermatology to care for underserved patients throughout Missouri for 25 years. Dermatology faculty practice in seven clinic locations throughout the mid-Missouri area and work closely with MU primary care departments and other clinical practices to promote optimal patient care. In addition to general dermatology, the department offers subspecialty expertise in pediatric dermatology, dermatopathology, melanoma care, psoriasis, rheumatology dermatology, Mohs surgery, contact dermatitis, and teledermatology.
We seek a candidate with evidence of proven leadership, strong interpersonal and management skills as well as an outstanding academic background. The successful candidate will have a compelling vision for the future of dermatology in a changing health care environment. Candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree(s), and board certification in dermatology. They should possess a substantial background and experience in administrative leadership, clinical care, teaching, and a strong academic background.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following qualifications or attributes: Hold an MD or MD/PhD degree, and must have or be able to easily obtain a Missouri medical license and academic accomplishments that merit appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure; A history of extramural funding and an established record of excellence in teaching and research.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated effective leadership, management and communication with faculty, staff, students, and other administrators; Commitment to innovative strategies in diversity and inclusion initiatives as it applies to faculty, staff and students; Familiar with national trends in undergraduate, graduate, and medical education; and passionate about improving education for all students; A strong collaboration record and willingness to collaborate with others; and Willingness to adopt a transparent, open-minded, respectful and approachable leadership style. Prior administrative experience or leadership at successive levels of responsibility; An understanding and commitment to the mission of an AAU Research 1 university and the School of Medicine mission; Experience with external stakeholders at the state, federal and international levels; Commitment to shared governance, collegiality, and continual professional development for faculty and staff; Foster collaborative interactions between clinical and basic science faculty members within the department and the School; Commitment to leading departmental discussions regarding departmental vision and strategic plans; Desire to lead developmental activities and cultivate alumni and donor relations.
