You will serve as a Medical Technologist in the Transfusion Services Department of OIC, HEALTHCARE SUPPORT OFFICE. You will preform a wide variety of highly complex technical and administrative procedures.

You will perform equipment and reagent quality control; routine and special immunohematology testing procedures; and a broad range of procedures that include non-routine and complex procedures.
You will train technicians, technologist, nurses, physicians and students in proper blood bank techniques and procedures.
You will use electronic computer systems to include: Blood Bank Management Systems, Laboratory Information Systems and Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient Information Management Systems.
You will assist in inventory management of blood products.

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual. Applicants must possess:
A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics; AND have successfully completed a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. OR
Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post- bachelor's certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's in medical technology. OR
Have successfully completed a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics. (Note - All science and mathematics courses must have been acceptable for credit toward meeting the requirements for a science major at an accredited college or university.) AND have five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids. (Note - Acceptable experience is responsible professional or technician experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency, industrial medical laboratory, or pharmaceutical house; or teaching, test development, or medical research program experience that provided an understanding of the methods and techniques applied in performing professional clinical laboratory work. Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body is a good indication that the quality of experience is acceptable.) OR
Are currently a federal employee assigned to a Medical Technologist/ Clinical Laboratory Scientist position as of July 2017.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of clinical laboratory experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector as a professional Medical Technologist. Specialized experience should demonstrate experience carrying out a variety of routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests in Blood Banking, including but not limited to the following: performing/monitoring specialized tests and non-routine procedures; Quality control review to ensure that blood products, reagents, and equipment will perform within written specifications; Perform preventive maintenance, minor trouble shooting and maintaining various database systems.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Completion of two years of progressively higher graduate education leading to a Masters degree or possession of a Masters or equivalent doctoral degree.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements. This position has selective placement factors that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. Failure to document possession of the selective placement factors in your resume or application documents will result in an ineligible rating. The selective placement factors are: 1) you must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT) or other board of registry deemed comparable by the Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine (CCLM) as a medical technologist (MT) or medical laboratory scientist (MLS); or be a commissioned laboratory officer in the Military Services, and have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; and have at least 3 years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing and be certified by the ASCP, AMT or other board of registry deemed comparable by CCLM as an MT or MLS; AND 2) meet minimal conditions to be certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program in accordance with 42 CFR 493.1461.
