The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) provides science about the natural hazards that threaten lives and livelihoods; the water, energy, minerals, and other natural resources we rely on; the health of our ecosystems and environment; and the impacts of climate and land-use change. Our scientists develop new methods and tools to supply timely, relevant, and useful information about the Earth and its processes. The USGS National Civil Applications Center provides remote sensing imagery from the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DOD) to other civilian Federal agencies, including USGS. The NCAC supports USGS science missions by conducting research in use and application of IC and DOD remote sensing data to meet science needs. In addition, NCAC provides the Secretariat staff for the Civil Applications Committee (CAC). The CAC facilitates appropriate civil uses of overhead remote technology and data collected by military and intelligence systems and commercial sources.
