Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Activities & Leadership Development; the Coordinator of Student Organizations, Leadership Development, & Assessment is responsible for advising, developing, overseeing, and supporting the administrative, event planning, governance, and fiscal operations of student organizations. Additionally, the Coordinator of Student Organizations & Leadership Development provides oversight and coordination of leadership initiatives within the Student Activities & Leadership Development (SA&LD) department. Presents a wide range of complex analytical documents, reports and assessments and makes recommendations for strategic priorities based on assessment and data analysis. Provides support for the long-term administrative growth of student organizations and makes independent decisions on day-to-day operations and interprets and applies specialized policies and procedures.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Advise Students and facilitate their student organization registration/reactivation processes for all recognized student clubs and organizations in compliance with related CSU Executive Orders. Manages University information and documents that apply to student organizations. In collaboration with the Student Organization Advisory Council, facilitates student organization officer and leader training, education, and compliance with Federal, State, local, CSU system, and university policies, procedures, laws, and executive orders. Creates, maintains, and distributes the CSUMB Student Organizations Handbook, Event Planning Guide, Advisor’s Handbook, and guidelines for student leadership and organizational effectiveness. Provides advising, guidance, leadership education, training, leadership coaching, organizational development, and conflict management assistance to student organization officers and leaders. Advises the Inter-Club Council (ICC). Trains and oversees the ICC executive board. Oversees Inter-Club Council budget, expenditures, and funding request processes. Provides support for student organizations through the development, implementation, and provision of community development software, web pages, publications, and technology training. Works closely with SA&LD staff to coordinate sponsored student travel, submission of applicable travel forms and documents, and compliance with risk management expectations regarding student travel and expenditure of state funds.
Assists the Director in designing, planning, and coordinating student leadership programs, workshops, and activities including a Fall Connections Rally, Connections Conference, CSUMB Leadership Conference, the Leadership Expedition, LeaderShape, and a Leadership Certificate or similar program. Coordinates student recruitment, selection, and participation in the leadership programs listed above. Coordinates LeaderShape alumni activities and their contributions to campus leadership initiatives. Contributes to collaborative Student Life leadership development, involvement, and recognition initiatives including Otter Leader Training, the annual Otter Showcase, and annual awards event. Collaborates with other university departments and other functional areas within SA&LD to provide leadership development and experiential learning opportunities for student and professional staff. Contributes to and assists with oversight of Student Activities & Leadership Development & University programs including orientation, Otter Leader Training, Otter Days, Otter Showcase, university open house, commencement, service/volunteer initiatives, and student activities. Contributes to and represents the SA&LD department on campus-wide committees such as National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, retention initiatives, thematic programming initiatives, and graduation celebrations.
Assesses program effectiveness, student satisfaction, and student co-curricular learning outcomes related to leadership development initiatives, student organization participation, their events, and overall program delivery. In coordination with the Director Student Activities and Leadership Development, facilitates the coordination and analysis of all departmental co-curricular learning outcomes while supporting the other SA&LD staff with their assessment efforts and projects. Publishes the SALD departmental assessments, their analysis and the departmental responses to the assessment analysis as it relates to programs delivery, participation levels, and enhancements.
Coordinates facility scheduling processes and procedures for student organization meetings, events, and workshops. Monitors and oversees student organization functioning and events to ensure appropriate risk management, space use, student safety, and compliance. Collaborates with campus partners including University Police, Risk Management, Clery Compliance Office,, Facilities, Personal Growth & Counseling Center, Student Housing & Residential Life, Service Learning Institute, Student Disability Resources, and Information Technology to best meet the service delivery needs and uphold the rights and responsibilities of student leaders and student organizations. Facilitates communication and collaboration between student organizations/ICC and Associated Students, Otter Student Union, Sports Club Council, Multicultural Greek Council, Residential Housing Association, and other recognized student-based entities. Accurately assesses risk for all registered student organizations’ events, both on and off campus; including the management of liability waivers, and Clery Reportable Crimes.
Facilitates and oversees interventions to address and refer misconduct, conflict, and/or situations of a complex/sensitive nature within registered student organizations.
Actively participates in department meetings, training programs, collaborations, retreats and planning sessions.
Attends approved seminars and conferences to maintain program and professional development.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑ related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

This position is required to comply with confidentiality requirements outlined in the Department of Education’s Family Educational Rights and Privacy and California’s Educational Code Chapter 13 regarding sensitive student issues.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority, will be required to participate in annual training, and to immediately forward to the Clery Compliance Officer all reports of Clery Act crimes brought to their attention.
Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University’s liability coverage.
May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
