The Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Services plays an important role in the student enrollment, retention and completion efforts of the College. The position supports the Collegeâs mission of changing lives and empowering students to succeed. * Responsible for planning, organizing Financial Aid and Veteran Services to ensure a student-focused approach in the administration of federal, state and institutional financial aid funds and services. ** Review processes and procedures and collaborate in the implementation of new technologies and workflows to improve services to students ** Develop and implement award strategies to leverage funds and maximize outcomes based on collegeâs recruitment, retention and completion goals ** Initiate policies to support studentsâ financial stability, especially in the areas of access, financial wellness and loan indebtedness ** Coordinate marketing and communication strategies for the unit (forms, email blasts, text messages, social media messages, web site, brochures, flyers, NTV) ** Seek additional funding/resources to improve services and/or increase student retention and completion * Directs, plans, organizes, and provides leadership to the day to day operations of Financial Aid and Veteran Services. ** Provide leadership in the development of unit goals and outcomes as they relate to the overall mission of Thomas Nelson ** Prepare, manage and analyze departmental budgets ** Arrange cross-training within the department to ensure all functional units have backup to perform tasks ** Conduct staff meetings on a regular basis to allow the exchange of information and provide training ** Encourage staff to participate in training opportunities on and off campus ** Plan and present workshops on campus to current students (i.e. FAFSA workshops, Financial Wellness) ** Participate in workshops/enrollment caravans at local high schools for prospective students and their parents ** Participate in campus-wide activities to promote financial aid and veteran services (i.e.; Open House, Fall Fest, Spring Fest, national Financial Literacy Month, Veterans Day, Student Success Fairs) * Oversees the awarding, disbursement and reconciliation of federal, state and institutional financial aid and timely processing of veterans benefits. ** Set up award parameters to benefit all eligible students ** Ensure financial aid is awarded, disbursed and reconciled in a timely manner and that it meets internal, as well as federal guidelines ** Collaborate with the Business Office to meet federal timelines for Return to Title IV refunds ** Communicate with Cabinet, division offices, faculty, staff and students regarding compliance issues and changes to financial aid and veteran benefits policies and regulations (FACA, GI Bill) ** Coordinate with Follett Bookstore and the Business Office to set up policies and procedures to award and disburse the Bookstore Grant Awards ** Oversee the coordination of the certification process for VA benefits * Serves on College Governance Committees, management groups and participate in Financial Aid and Veteran Services organizations. ** Attend college division meetings to provide updates and answer questions from faculty and staff ** Participate in the College Enrollment Team and the Recruitment and Retention team ** Attend /participate in College Council ** Participate in Curriculum and Academic Calendar committees to ensure compliance with federal financial aid regulations ** Attend mid-level manager meetings ** Attend/participate in the VCCS Financial Aid Workgroup meetings ** Participate in the Deans, Directors and Academic Coordinators (DDACC) Committee ** Attend the Military Educational Advisory Committee (MEAC), organized by SCHEV ** Chair the annual Veterans Day Planning Committee ** Attends Financial Aid and Veteran Services Professional associations as allowed ** Provide accreditation information for SACCOC * Completes required federal, state and institutional reports ** Gather data, completes and submits annual FISAP report ** Complete the S1/S2, S5 reports by dates specified by SCHEV ** Facilitate the completion of the FA Data File by the date specified by SCHEV ** Oversee the audit response report to the VCCS in collaboration with other college offices ** Complete requests for information in conjunction with Institutional Research (i.e.; IPEDS, Petersonâs, Best for Vets) ** Coordinate data gathering for Veteran Services Annual Compliance Review with the State Approving Agency ** Update Program Participation Agreement (PPA) as needed/required * Review requests and appeals from students ** Meet with students who have had Satisfactory Academic progress appeals denied to determine their next steps in continuing their education ** Review special circumstance and no parent appeals from students to determine their eligibility for possible additional financial aid assistance ** Evaluate student requests to purchase laptops with their financial aid through the bookstore
