The Undergraduate Dean provides overall administrative leadership and management for all undergraduate academic programs. The dean works in concert with provost, associate provost, department chairs and faculty to ensure and promote academic excellence in all phases of undergraduate education. The undergraduate dean is responsible for creating and managing efficient and effective operational processes to ensure compliance with University policy and regional and specialty accreditation. A key member of the Academic Affairs Office, s/he must work collaboratively across the campus with department chairs, admissions, enrollment, student affairs and other organizations that influence the student experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Partners with department chairs to foster a climate of academic excellence, collaboration, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
Collaborates with department chairs to assess needs and develop market driven proposals for new programs.
Oversees and provides support for academic program review, including evaluation of department chair performance.
Leads department chairs on strategic and tactical matters in Academic Council.
Facilitates with department chairs the transfer of credit for transfer students.
Works with department chairs and provost's office on faculty searches and hiring processes.
Works with graduate dean on continuing education offerings relevant to undergraduate education.
Oversees academic advising process including first year advising.
Works with Core Review Committee on the assessment and implementation of the Core Curriculum, and reviews all undergraduate curriculum proposals prior to submission to University Curriculum Committee.
Provides support for regional and specialty accreditation including undergraduate assessment.
Works with Provost's office and Office of Enrollment on articulation agreements and institutional partnerships.
Promotes undergraduate programs and organizes faculty attendance at recruiting events.
Partners with student success and retention committees to promote policies that support academic and professional development of students.
Oversees Writing Center.
Manages student academic appeal process and upholds academic integrity policies while helping resolve student complaints not resolved at the department level.
Oversees updates to undergraduate catalogue.
Makes budget and salary recommendations to the Provost.
Demonstrates commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Works well within a team-based environment including but not limited to building strong partnerships with Faculty Assembly, Student Affairs, and Admissions and Recruiting.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Provost and VPAA.
Earned doctorate in a discipline offered at Salve Regina University with qualifications for the rank of tenure at associate or full-professor.
Demonstrated expertise with academic program development, innovative teaching methods and technologically mediated learning.
Strong supervisory skills preferably within higher education.
Basic knowledge of personnel regulations.
Analysis, forecasting and planning skills.
Knowledge and respect for faculty governance principles.
